Stardew Valleymay appear to be a cute farming sim on the surface, but for those of us more interested in dangerous work in our life sim games, the Stardew Valley mines offer all the mining and combat opportunities you could hope to find in this idyllic town.

With three distinct areas of the mines each containing individual resources, gems, and monsters you’ll need to handle, it can be a lot to keep straight. For some tips on how to handle yourself in the mines in Stardew Valley, follow along with our guide as you dive deeper into the mines.

Mine Overview

There Are 120 Floors Of Resources And Monsters

In the Pelican Town mines, which areNorth of the Mountain Lakenear Robin’s house, but they’reblocked until Day 5of your first year in the game by a boulder, where you’ll see a construction worker chipping away. After the boulder is removed, you’re free to go into the mines anytime you’d like, from the time you wake up until you pass out at 2AM.

Almost every floor will be full ofrocks, assorted ores, and different kinds ofmonstersthat become progressively tougher to handle the deeper into the mines you go. Some floors, though, areinfestedand thereforecontain only monsters, which you’llneed a weaponto defeat before you’re able to move on.

These areas often have unique enemies and resources, so be sure to explore as much as you can before you run out of energy.

The quality of the resources you find on any given floor isimpacted directly by your Luckfor the day, so it may be the best use of time toskip mining on bad luck days.

Unlock Elevators To Return To That Floor

Going up?Every five floorsyou progress into the mines, you’ll find anelevator next to the ladderfrom which you entered the floor. When you next come to the mines, you may use the elevator at the entrance togo directly to that floor.

Even if you don’t take the elevator right then, interact with the elevatorto ensure it’s unlocked. These provide a steady stream ofperiodic spots to return to laterwhen you need to farm specific resources, so be diligent.

What Do You Get For Reaching The End Of The Mines?

On floor 120 of the Pelican Town mines, you’ll find the key you need to enter the Skull Caverns in Calico Desert, theSkull Key.

You can also trigger theShrine of Challenge, which is located on floor 120 as well. Doing so will make it so themines are considered dangerous, which promptstougher iterations of existing enemies, as well as some new enemies to spawn. Since you can’t begin the challenge until reaching the bottom of the mines, it’s a good way to keep things exciting for subsequent runs!
