Summary
Once Humanreceived a re-debut at Summer Game Fest, with an announcement that it will be available beginning July 9 of this year. The upcoming post-apocalyptic multiplayer game had previously undergone a closed beta, and now it appears that it is primed for release. A new trailer debuted as part of the event, where parts of gameplay were showcased as well as the game’s platform and launch date.
The trailer confirmed that the game will not be coming to consoles, at least not in the short term. Instead, it will exclusively launch on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It’s a bit of a bummer for console fans, but somewhat expected given that the closed beta was only ever on PC.
Thosewho pre-register on the game’s website will be entitled to a slew of rewards, including some consumables as well as a weapon skin. As of this writing, a little over 14 million people have registered, according to Once Human’s website tracker. If that number crosses 20 million, those who pre-register will receive a pair of gloves.
As for the game itself, it’s described as a “Supernatural Multiplayer Open-World Survival Game.” In that world, everything has been infested by an alien creature known as Stardust. The player assumes the role of a meta-human, one who can harness the power of Stardust and is immune to its contaminants. Players can join others or go about things solo as they explore and fight within the world.
The game’s synopsis is as follows:
Unite with friends to fight monstrous enemies, uncover secret plots, compete for resources, and build your own territory. Once, you were merely human. Now, you have the power to remake the world.
Its gameplay involves players exploring the wilderness of the open world. Because of the effect of Stardust, nearly everything is contaminated, according to the game’s Steam page. That means that food and water are also impacted, and if the player happens to consume contaminated water, then their “Sanity” will decrease. A lower “Sanity” impacts your overall HP, therefore players must decide when or what they will eat.
Beyond that, there are monsters to fight, including transformed humans and “bosses from another dimension.” Defeating bosses will net items and ease the effects of Stardust on the world. To do so, players can customize their weapons utilizing blueprints. Finally, there is a base building mechanic in the game, where players can create a place of their own. All of those elements bleed into the overall story of finding out what happened to the world.
