Summary
It’s been said before that nothing is forever. That statement is mostly true, except when it revolves around the internet. Because the internet is truly forever, and it always has receipts. Case in point,Obsidianleaking the release date forAvowedin a blog post, then deleting the evidence. But not before some internet sleuths took screenshots of the gaffe.
During the Xbox Games Showcase,Avowed received a new trailer, highlighting the game’s story and gameplay elements. That trailer ended with a mysterious 2024 release window. Then, a few hours later, Obsidianpublished a blog post on its website, telling fans to check out the new trailer. That post was bookended with a release date of November 12.

Then, when people began noticing and sharing the release date, Obsidian scrubbed it from the site. This is what the blog post looks like now:
November 12 Is A Packed Date For Games
While this is certainly a gaffe on Obsidian’s end, November has apparently always been the targeted month for release.Tom Warren of The Verge has previously reported in the past that Novemberwas when the game was targeting to be released. Sunday’s blog post basically confirmed that report with a concrete day.
Now, should the game actually release on the 12th, which is a Tuesday, it won’t be the only title making its way to platforms. That’s becausethe Gold Edition and Collector’s EditionofAssassin’s Creed: Shadowswill also be launching that day via early access. The full game will come out that Friday, the 15th,for those purchasing the standard edition.

Of course, these are two different titles that cater to two different audiences. Avowed is a traditional RPG from Obsidian, and an entry in its long-runningPillars of Eternity series. Though Obsidian is probably most fondly remembered for its work onFallout: New Vegas, the studio has a long history of RPGs, with Avowed representing a return to form.
Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is, well, another Assassin’s Creed. Thistime there will be dual protagonists, and it’ll take place in feudal Japan, which has been a long-requested locale. Shadows will also be a multiplatform release, whereas Avowed is exclusively coming to Xbox. In other words, the chances of cannibalization of either title remains slim. More so, plenty of titles have also been released on the same day before.
Either way, it’s an interesting development and certainly worth wondering as to why it wasn’t announced as part of the showcase. But thanks to the Internet, we have an idea of when this game will come out after all. Remember, there’s always receipts.
