Nintendo’s next console, commonly referred to as the Switch 2, will reportedly have a screen resolution of 1080p in handheld mode. The screen will also apparently be eight inches bigger than the Switch OLED, as Nintendo seemingly focuses on improving the experience for those who play on the go.
This new information isn’t official, but comes to us courtesy of the third-party Switch controller manufacturer, Mobapad. In a postspotted by ReserEra user –R, Mobapad has given us one of the biggest breakdowns of the Switch 2’s capabilities yet, as the company says it’s already working on its own controllers for the console.
New Details On The Switch 2 Leak
Mobapad shared this information on the websiteBilibili, going over several details about the Switch 2. It claims to have obtained this “first-hand information” itself but doesn’t go into much more detail than that, so it’s worth taking these claims with a pinch of salt.
Some of the details, however, line up with what we’ve heard from other sources. Here, Mobapad also says thatthe Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with original Switch games, and that it will sportnew Joy-Cons that connect to the console magnetically.
However, it also claims that the Switch 2 will support 1080p resolution in handheld mode. There are no details on whether this will be improved in docked mode since the original Switch supported up to 1080p when played on the TV. With that in mind, we can expect a similar boost when using the Switch 2 as a home console.
One surprising detail is that despite the Switch 2 reportedly using new Joy-Cons, it will apparently still support our older controllers. Mobapa says they will be connected via Bluetooth, so it may not be possible to keep them charged up using the console itself, as we could on the original Switch.
Of course, Nintendo hasn’t even announced its next-gen console yet, so we’ll have to wait and see if these details end up amounting to anything. If they do, it’s good news for Nintendo fans, as it looks like you’ll be able to keep your old games and controllers.
