Summary

Popular streamer Nickmercs was just hit with his firstTwitchban. While the reason wasn’t made public, Nickmercs has confirmed that it was over his use of a transphobic slur.

Since being banned, Nickmercs has doubled down on the transphobia. He hasn’t indicated if he’ll be returning to Twitch, and right now, his channel cannot be viewed on the site.

Text reads: Banned for using the word “Tr*nny” on Twitch. Apparently that’s a derogatory term. That’s on me. Next time I’ll use mental health disorder.

Nickmercs Is Banned From Twitch

Nickmercs shared the slur once again on social media after news of the ban was made public. He doesn’t explain whether or not the ban is temporary, and right now, neither party has said if he’s expected to return to Twitch. In the meantime, he’s likely to use Kick.

While this is Nickmerc’s first Twitch ban, this is not the first time that the streamer has made bigoted remarks about the queer community. Last year, his Operator Bundle wasremoved from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzoneover comments he made about LGBTQ+ people on social media. Here, he said that schools should not discuss queer identities or pride month, and insinuated that queer people were a danger to children.

Another streamer and a friend of Nickmercs, TimTheTatman, asked Activision to pull his own Call of Duty skinsin response, which they did.

More recently, Nickmercs has been in the news after fellow streamer, Dr DisRespect, wasaccused of sending inappropriate messages to a minorand arranging to meet with them at TwitchCon. Nickmercs was initially dismissive of the allegations, but followingDr DisRespect’s admission that he did message the minor, he described the behaviour as “inexcusable”. He has, however, faced calls to come down harder on Dr DisRespect, as he ended his statement by simply saying, “What can you do?”

As for his Twitch ban, Nickmerc is likely to continue on Kick, a service that’s notorious for its lax community guidelines. In fact,Kick is yet to ban Dr DisRespect in light of his admission to messaging a minor, saying that it would be “too soon to even consider that”.
