Summary
Remember back in the day -reallyback in the day - whenYouTubewas dominated by, like, five different memes for years on end? Well, someone atBandai Namcocertainly does, if the latest trailer forSand Landis anything to go by.
For some ungodly reason, the new trailer features none other than the track Sandstorm, from the artist Darude. Or as it’s often referred to as, Darude - Sandstorm. It’s hilarious, but actually works perfectly, with the gameplay footage timed to the song and everything. Really, words don’t do it justice, just watch it yourself. Please.
Unsurprisingly, everyone seems to love the music choice here. It’s a nostalgic call back to the YouTube of old, when near enough every gameplay highlights compilation used this track. For extra authenticity, the top comment is even Bandai Namco asking, “Song title?”. Naturally, everyone who’s in on the joke is responding with incorrect song titles. Some of them are rickrolls. Now that sends me back and makes me feel my age (25 years young).
For those of you too young to remember, the modern-day equivalent of this is probably when a song gets really big on TikTok, and suddenly everyone on your For You Page is using it. Except in this case, it was pretty much just this one song, and it went on for years. Trends lasted much longer back then, you see.
What Is Sand Land?
If you clicked on this article just to hear Darude - Sandstorm for the first time in years, you’re probably wondering what Sand Land is all about. Sand Land is an upcoming RPG based on the manga series of the same name, published by Bandai Namco. The game is out very soon, set to launch on April 25, and there’s a demo out now if you want to give it a go.
The series was created by Akira Toriyama, who, of course, also gave usDragon Ball. Toriyama sadlypassed away last month at the age of 68, making this video game adaptation of his work all the more poignant. He oversaw the game’s development too, making it one of his final projects.
