Summary

Avowedjust got another trailer at theXboxGames Showcase, giving us another look at its gameplay and story.

Here, we’re told that we’re an envoy sent out to investigate and eliminate the Dreamscourage, a plague that’s making its way across the Living Lands. Of course, there’s much more going on than that, as the trailer ominously tells us to “choose [our] side” as we fight our way through our investigation.

New Avowed Trailer Reveals Story Details

Avowed is part ofObsidian’s long-runningPillars of Eternityseries. You don’t need to have played the other games to understand what’s going on here, but if you fancy giving them a go, you’ll be starting with the original 2015 instalment. That should help you understand the setting a bit better going into Avowed’s launch later this year.

Alas, we still don’t have a specific release date. This latest trailer only confirms that it’s still a 2024 launch, now narrowing it down any further than that.

Avowed is the latest RPG from Obsidian, which is perhaps most fondly remembered for the fan-favourite entry in theFalloutseries,New Vegas. After the success of the Fallout TV series, there had been some hope that Xbox would put Obsidian on another Fallout game, particularly sinceBethesdaisn’t anywhere close to getting Fallout 5 out the door. However, that’s said to be pretty unlikely, which isn’t surprising, given that Obsidian has its own games to work on.

On top of getting Avowed out the door for later this year, Obisidan is also working on The Outer Worlds 2. Fallout series creator Tim Cain isback with the team to consult on the sequel, having directed the first game, so we shouldn’t expect a huge departure from the feel of the original. We can expect to see more of it once Avowed is sorted since that will likely be taking up the studio’s time right now.

Avowed is set to launch on PC and Xbox. It’s unclear if ports to other platforms are planned in the future, as we have seen with other Xbox console exclusives.
