Summary

Rick and Mortyhave both been recast inMultiVersus, with the actors who currently voice them in the show taking over following Adult Swim cutting ties with Justin Roiland.

One of the best things about MultiVersus that sets it apart from other platform fighters is how it lets itsstar-studded roster of Warner Bros. characters interact with one another. Seeing Superman compliment Steven Universe on his heroics while Bug Bunny quotes Game of Thrones at Arya Stark is just the kind of thing that makes these crossovers so special.

In the Open Beta version of MultiVersus, there were two exceptions to this rule - Rick and Morty.Neither character had unique voice lines and simply reused voice clipsfrom the show to try and make them fit the characters they were facing. It wasn’t clear why that was the case, but fans called it out as feeling lazy and wanted it to be fixed.

Rick And Morty Finally Interact With Characters In MultiVersus

That’s no longer the case in MultiVersus' Season 1 relaunch. As youhave likely figured out by Rick actually speaking in the game’s launch trailer, both he and Morty have been recast and are no longer using Justin Roiland’s voice clips. Rick is now voiced by Ian Cardoni and Morty is played by Harry Belden, which makes sense considering the pair now voice Rick and Morty in the show.

This doesn’t come as a surprise considering Adult Swim fired Justin Roiland and cut ties with himfollowing domestic battery and false imprisonment charges. Roiland was later cleared of these charges, but Adult Swim has still kept him away from the show.

I confirmed this by going into the MultiVersus' credits while previewing it, which showed Cardoni and Belden’s names. Beyond meaning that Roiland is no longer involved in the game, it also means that Rick and Morty finally have interactions with the other cast members and will spout some unique lines depending on who they’re facing.

For example, if you put Rick up against Shaggy, he’ll bet that he has a “liberal arts degree” while having him fight Jake will lead to him asking if anyone minds him skinning the stretchy dog. His lines are quite a bit darker than the rest of the cast, as you’re able to imagine. Morty also has some interesting interactions, ranging from him saying that crossovers are exhausting to chatting with Finn about being two adventuring teens.
