AMortal Kombat 1pro has actually managed to lose money after winning a tournament due to throwing a chair at a $3,000 lighting fixture while celebrating.

Over the past few days, one of the biggest fighting game tournaments in the world, CEO, has been happening at Daytona Beach and featuring matches in beloved games likeTekken 8,King of Fighters 15,Guilty Gear Strive,Dragon Ball FighterZ, andMortal Kombat 1. There have been some great battles since the event started on June 28, but there have also been some controversial moments.

One such moment took place during theWinner’s Final match of the Mortal Kombat 1 tournament, which featured RezDyloch going up against RewindNV. As Dyloch defeated Rewind’s Reiko with his General Shao, he can be seen standing up in victory and then proceeding to throw his chair outside of the arena and into a light fixture.

Mortal Kombat 1 Champion Wins Tournament But Ends Up Losing Money

Although Dyloch would go on to win the Grand Finals against Rewind and be crowned the champion of CEO 2024’s Mortal Kombat 1 tournament, his win is a bit overshadowed by the fact that he’sactually walking away oweing more money than he won. CEO’s founder, Alex Jebailey, revealed that the light that Dyloch broke cost nearly $3,000 and said that he’d be responsible for paying for itwhile offering somestern words for anyone considering throwing things in the future.

If one more person pops off throwing anything you will be banned from any event I ever do. This is a final warning to anyone in the future. Do not throw things.

Considering CEO’s grand prize for each tournament is around $565, that means that all of Dyloch’s prize money and around $2,500 of his own is going towards replacing the light.Dyloch tweeted about the situation, celebrating his win and confirming that he’s going to replace the light and be “responsible” for it.

Dyloch is far from the only fighting game competitor to have pulled a move like this recently. Hungrybox, who previously threw a chair at the crowd in 2022, received a lot of backlash earlier this yearwhen he broke a chair on-stage during a “pop-off” moment. Let’s hope that Jebailey’s warning is taken seriously and we stop seeing this kind of thing happen.
