Summary
It’s been a while, butMetal Gear Solidis back in the spotlight again. Its Master Collection kicked that off, anda fresh look at Delta: Snake Eater during the Xbox Games Showcasehas kept that momentum going. With no firm release date for the remake, we’ll have to look elsewhere for Metal Gear goodness to keep that momentum going. One way to make that happen will be by buying and listening to a massive new soundtrack that pulls tracks from the entire Metal Gear series.
Konamihas partnered with Laced Record to create Metal Gear Solid: The Vinyl Collection, a six-disc set that kicks off with 1990’s Metal Gear 2 and goes all the way up toMetal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, the most recent installment in the series. 53 tracks in total, most of which have been pulled from OSTs featuring remastered versions of the games' soundtracks that were released to celebrate the series' 20th and 25th anniversaries.

While the 53 tracks will be spread across The Vinyl Collection’s first five discs, the sixth disc has been saved for some of Metal Gear’s most iconic sound effects. Side A of disc six has been dubbed Solid Sneaking and features nothing but various stealth cues from across the series, while side B is called Vs. Boss and does the same with all of Metal Gear’s boss cues from throughout the years. Nothing like the sound of a boss that has haunted you over the years blasting through your speakers to keep you on your toes.
Six Discs Dedicated To Metal Gear’s Music And Sound Effects
Metal Gear Solid: The Vinyl Collection
Metal Gear Solid: The Vinyl Collection includes music from throughout the Metal Gear series. 53 tracks in total spread across five discs, plus a sixth disc loaded with stealth and boss cues from the games.
Pre-orders for the six-disc set are now open at Laced Records and The Vinyl Collection is priced at $130. There’s also a cheaper double LP with a concentrated 18 tracks rather than the full 53 if you’re happy with nothing but Metal Gear’s essential listening. Sure, a lot of the music will be missing, but among the 18 tracks included on the double LP, which costs $38, is The Best Is Yet To Come from the original Metal Gear Solid, and Snake Eater from Metal Gear Solid 3.
After almost a decade of nothing new from Metal Gear Solid, it’s a relief to know the series hasn’t been abandoned for good. It’s also great for Metal Gear fans that the resurrection of the series won’t stop at games alone. Not is the series getting an expansive collection to celebrate its music, but Uniqlo revived its retired t-shirt collection earlier this year and it wound up being a very popular decision.
