Summary
PlayStation’s long-awaited Summer State of Play has revealed thatMarvel Rivalswill be coming to PlayStation in an open beta state in July, although a specific date hasn’t been announced yet.
One of the biggest surprises of 2024 so far has been Marvel Rivals, Netease’sOverwatch-esque literal hero shooter that features characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Loki, and more. Its sudden announcement came out of nowhere and surprised a lot of fans, who all seemed to flock to its closed beta test on Steam andseemed to have a lot of good things to say about it.
That just left one big question -when would console players be able to get their hands on Marvel Rivals? That’s usually a pretty simple question but, funnily enough, Marvel Rivals hasn’t even officially been confirmed to be coming to consoles yet, as none of the trailers have mentioned it. That’s all changed thanks to PlayStation’s Summer State of Play.
Marvel Rivals Is Coming To PlayStation And Xbox In July
The new trailer for Marvel Rivals started off by confirming that Venom and Adam Warlockare going to be the next two characters joining the roster. Venom seems to play like a much heavier version of Spider-Man (web-swinging included) who can use his symbiote for area-of-effect attacks, while Adam is clearly a support role similar to Overwatch’s Mercy.
Of course, Venom and Adam Warlock aren’t surprising to anyone that has been keeping up with Marvel Rivals,as they were both spotted in the game’s code by dataminers.
The biggest thing to come from the new trailer, though, is confirmation of a Closed Beta test for Marvel Rivals at some point in July. Although the State of Play trailer (obviously) only mentioned PlayStation, it was confirmed on Twitter that it would be happening at the same time for Xbox Series as well.
While it’s great to see Marvel Rivals officially confirmed for release on PlayStation and Xbox, it’s far from surprising news. At one point, the official website’s source code had several references to the two platforms, while dataminers were able to find references to the two platforms and their respective store fronts.
