Summary

Kingdom Heartsfans think that Sora could be making an appearance in Inside Out 2, as recent footage reportedly featured a “Final Fantasy-esque video game character”.

Following the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 4 and Missing Link at the 20th-anniversary event in 2022, the last two years have been drier than Kurt Zisa when it comes to KH news. We’re all sitting here patiently waiting foranythingto happen with the series and, while we seemingly aren’t getting any game news any time soon, there is a possibility that Sora at least gets to make an appearance outside of his own game.

Over on Twitter, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Inside Out 2 features a scene where the characters get to interact with some of Riley’s forgotten memories. This reportedly includes a 2D animated dog that is supposed to be a parody of Blue’s Clues, a mysterious cloaked being called “Dark Secret” and a “Final Fantasy-esque video game character animated in the style of PS2”.

Inside Out 2 Features A Character Who Sounds Suspiciously Like Sora

As you’ve probably already guessed by now, the “Final Fantasy-esque video game character” description certainly soundsverysimilar to Sora, which has fans hoping that he might make a cameo in the movie. He’s also described as being animated like a PS2 character, which is, of course, where his journey began.

The comments underneath The Hollywood Reporter’s tweet are full of Kingdom Hearts fanspointing out that it sounds like Sora and hoping that our boy is actually going to show up. Some evensuggest that the “mysterious cloaked being” could be an Organisation Member, although seeing as how they’re given the name “Dark Secret” that does seem a bit like a reach to me. Hey, Kingdom Hearts has certainly done weirder.

Of course, it’s worth noting that Disney owns the rights to Kingdom Hearts and could absolutely end up putting Sora in Inside Out 2. I would bet on Inside Out making an appearance in Kingdom Hearts 4, at least.

Some fans have even suggested that this could be a way for Disney to canonise Inside Out’s world in the Kingdom Hearts universe and potentially even set it up to appear in the series. As much fun as it sounds to see Sora appear in an official Disney movie, it does seem a little unlikely that the company wants to paint Sora as a “forgotten memory” instead of just using a parody of some kind.

Still, it’s certainly a possibility and it’s hard to deny that The Hollywood Reporter’s description of the character sounds an awful lot like our favourite Destiny Island resident. We’ll have to wait and see when the movie comes out, but it’d be pretty typical if that’s the next time the series shows up anywhere.
