Summary
Well, that didn’t take long. Despite only being serialized since 2020 and its anime only starting in April of this year, Kaiju No. 8 is getting its first video game. News comes by way of a brand-new trailer following nearly a week of teases. Check it out:
Per the announcement, Kaiju No. 8 The Game will be developed by Akatsuki Games, with additional support from TOHO and Production I.G. There is no release date for the game, though it’ll be available via Steam, the Apple App Store and Google Play Store when it does. A key visual to accompany the trailer was also shared on social media.
The trailer doesn’t have any gameplay, though it does depict protagonist Kafka Hibino as well as several supporting characters, including Kikoru Shinomiya. Akatsuki Games is responsible for multiple anime-based titles, such as the popular Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle.
Despite its relatively young age, Kaiju No. 8 has been making waves in the industry. The animebecame the first major release to stream concurrently on X (formerly known as Twitter) for free. Additionally, its opening theme song is performed by Yungblud, while it’s ending theme song is performed by OneRepublic, a major development for a brand-new title.
As for the plot itself,Crunchyroll has described Kaiju No. 8 as such:
In a world plagued by creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in The Defense Force. He makes a promise to enlist with his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Soon, life takes them in separate ways. While employed cleaning up after Kaiju battles, Kafka meets Reno Ichikawa. Reno’s determination to join The Defense Force reawakens Kafka’s promise to join Mina and protect humanity.
