V Risingentered early access in May 2022, and recently saw its 1.0 launch two years later. There is more content in the game than ever before, so you may be asking yourself, “Is V Rising worth playing?”. If you are struggling to answer this question for yourself, we’ve got you covered.
Here, we are going to take a look at whether V Rising is worth playing or not. This varies from person to person, but we’ll be going over reviews, costs, time expenditure, and what other players are saying. Hopefully, you will be able to decide for yourself whether diving into a vampire world is right for you.

Review
First and foremost, V Rising is an open-world survival crafting game. You will need to make a castle, explore the world, gather resources, and take on bosses in order to gain new skills and recipes. Along the way, you can expand your castle, gather prisoners (for unlimited access to their blood, of course), and even engage in some PvP combat if there are other players.
V Rising doesn’t feel like any other survival crafting game though. The simple addition of the sunlight mechanic adds an entirely new level of difficulty that is implemented flawlessly into the game. As a vampire, you will need to avoid sunlight. Traveling during the night is the safest, but you’re able to also take your chances during the day and stick to the shadows.

These shadows aren’t static though; they shift throughout the day, and even change if you alter the surrounding environment. Cutting down a tree will remove that patch of shade, forcing you to hide somewhere else.
Sunlight has never been as important as it is in V Rising, and it’s a wonderful addition. Who knew that the strongest enemy could be a bright sun that quickly chips away at your HP?

Aside from sunlight, the building in V Rising feels natural and grand. From the outside, castles will probably look very boxy, but thankfully, you aren’t able to see the entire castle at the same time. This may be a downside if you like to admire your own work, but it also helps you avoid over-thinking about the outside of your base.
Inside, you may add twisting corridors, huge staircases, and tons of decorations. With multiple levels, you can have vast floors holding your coffin, throne, and crafting equipment.

In terms of combat, fighting feels very smooth and fluid. As you defeat bosses, you will unlock points for their associated type of magic. This is a much-needed addition, especially since bosses used to drop a specific skill when the game was in early access. Rather than being pinholed into one specific skill, you can choose which you want.
These skills range from a volley of chaos damage to summoning a giant spider to kill enemies. There is plenty of variation, and even more if you use little gems that alter existing skills.
Lastly, the crafting system is worth noting. At times, you may feel stagnant in terms of weapon crafting. At the start of the game, it’s easy to make new weapons and level up your gear, but once you hit a certain tier (mercilesscopper weapons, in our case), things seem to slow down. This can make exploration difficult, especially when combined with slow processing time formaterials like iron.
Thankfully, crafting is fairly simple; each weapon type has one version. For example, when you have the merciless copper mace (with no iron weapons unlocked), you will know that this is the best. There are no alternative maces that you will have to decide between.
Overall, V Rising is a familiar yet refreshing experience that puts you in the shoes of a villain. There is nothing heroic about pillaging villages and wiping out militia camps, but it’s satisfying to claim your loot and return to your castle for a crafting session.
Time Expenditure
Like many survival crafting games, the amount of time you play V Rising completely depends on your own playstyle. If you are playing alone or with a few friends (in PvE), then it may take youaround 40 hours to beat the main story. This includes beating all the bosses in each act.
If you are aiming for 100 percent completion, some players note that this can take around 75 hours.
It’s important to note that your own playtime can vary from these numbers. If you like to focus on building, then you may spend more time in the game. Additionally, playing in PvP adds another element of fighting other players, which can add even more time.
Overall, you can comfortably play this game for over 40 hours without feeling like there is nothing left to do.
Cost
V Rising is currently only available on PC, but there are plans for it to be launched on PlayStation (you can currently wishlist V Rising).
On Steam, V Rising will cost $34.99 USD, and there are a few DLCs that you can buy. It’s important to note that all of the DLC is optional; you do not need to buy them in order to get the full experience. These packs are largely cosmetic.

What Players Are Saying
One Of The Best Survival Games Out There - Jacqueline Zalace
As a long-time lover of survival crafting games, I’ve played my fair share of games in the genre that feel like hollow clones of popular titles. Thankfully, V Rising is not one of these games. The game has really scratched the survival crafting itch, providing a new and exciting experience.
I tend to play survival games solo, so some of the end-game content can become a bit difficult, but thankfully, you can tweak the settings to make the game a bit easier. Of course, if you’re up for the challenge, V Rising is worth the grind.
Absolutely Worth Your Time - Charles Burgar
As someone who heavily dislikes survival games, V Rising actively addresses many of my issues with the genre. Excellent combat, meaningful progression systems, and a kickass castle builder kept me coming back again and again.
Fans of survival games should absolutely pick V Rising up. And if you’re someone like me who hates survival games with a passion, Istillrecommend V Rising. The combat in this game is of the same quality as most MOBAs, which isn’t a surprise coming from Stunlock. If you don’t mind a little challenge and endgame resource grinding, you’ll have a great time here.
