Summary

Any ARPG is bound to be compared toElden Ringdue to how much of a breakthrough it was for its genre andDragon’s Dogma 2also suffers from the same fate. No matter how good the game is on its own, fans are always going to want to know whether it compares to Elden Ring and this article will answer that.

We will compare all the features that make a good RPG and come to the conclusion of which one is better. Obviously, there is going to be some personal bias involved but we’re going to try and take in public perception as well when judging these games.

8Graphics - Tie

There isn’t anything too major separating the graphics of these two games as both of them include amazing lighting and detailing. The themes of both the games are perfectly complimented by their graphics, andit ultimately comes down to what you prefer.

Cutscenes in Dragon’s Dogma 2 feel a little bit more realistic compared to Elden Ring, but the large scale of the world in Elden Ring, as well as the intricacies in the design of every enemy, makes it look a little bit better in that aspect.

7Combat - Elden Ring

Both games do a great job with their combat, but there is a reason Elden Ring stands out as one of the best action RPGs ever created. Althoughfights in this game can be extremely challenging,it is still extremely fun to strategically find out the weaknesses of your enemies by constantly dying against them and figuring out how to slowly beat them.

The different vocationsand their related strengths also make Dragon’s Dogma 2’s combat pretty fun. It is also much more balanced and fights are a lot easier, but it still just falls short of the high standards of Elden Ring.

6Beginner Friendly - Dragon’s Dogma 2

There is no doubt that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a much more accessible and beginner-friendly game than Elden Ring. If you’re looking for acasual, fantasy gamethat you can easily play without raging or trying too hard, then Dragon’s Dogma 2 should be your go-to.

On the other hand, Elden Ring is just not too great for beginners to the genre. You will constantly have to learn new things andsome fights can be way too fast for new players to adapt. Yet this game does provide you with a lot of freedom, and you can choose to return to certain fights and do them later when you feel more prepared.

5Performance - Elden Ring

Even after so long, Dragon’s Dogma 2 still has a lot of performance issues that don’t seem like they will be fixed anytime soon. The main towns in the game cause a lot of stuttering, and you will regularly drop many frames if you’re not playing on a super well-optimized setup. Although the game is still very playable, it does have certain issues that can be very annoying to deal with.

Elden Ring may have a larger world than Dragon’s Dogma 2, but its performance is still extremely smooth, especially if you’re playing in its performance mode. There may be occasional issues here and there, but nothing that comes mildly close to Dragon’s Dogma 2’s issues.

4Plot - Dragon’s Dogma 2

Likemost FromSoftware games, Elden Ring doesn’t put a lot of emphasis on its storyline at all, and it is mostly a part of the background theme of the game rather than being its main focus. This is not a game where you may expect traditional fantasy storytelling with cutscenes and dialogue.

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s story may not be its best feature, but it isdefinitely more consistent than Elden Ring in this aspect. The cutscenes and dialogue in this game are well-made and put some emphasis on storytelling as well as keeping the gameplay fun.

3World/Exploration - Tie

Although Elden Ring’s world is much larger than Dragon’s Dogma 2, that doesn’t necessarily make it much better. The cities within Dragon’s Dogma 2, especially Vermund, feel much more detailed and the random NPC interactions feel a lot more realisticand fun.

Elden Ring’s exploration system is much better and riding around on Torrent the horse is much more fun than running around in Dragon’s Dogma. Fast travel is also much easier, which makes life a lot simpler in Elden Ring.

2Bosses - Elden Ring

The bosses and the variety of them are some of the best parts of Elden Ring. There are more than 16 major boss fights in this game and there are hundreds of mini-bosses and plenty of optional ones.Almost every boss is completely different,in terms of their design as well as combat, and things never feel too repetitive.

In comparison, Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t feel too special at all when it comesto its boss fights, mainly due to its lack of variety. There are also many bosses, such as Medusa and the final Dragon, that can feel too easy, which can be quite underwhelming.

1Final Verdict - Elden Ring

Both Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Elden Ring share a lot of similarities, yet they are completely different games.Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a much more typical RPG fantasy experience that anyone can try out and enjoy. The vocation system as well as the creative and unique Pawns add something special to this game and the rest of it is pretty fun as well.

The reason Elden Ring takes the win is that it is a once-in-a-lifetime gameand playing it till the end gives you an experience that no other game can recreate. It also barely has any flaws except maybe being a little too tough, but that’s part of what makes it so good. From the bosses to the incredible combat and the beautiful world, Elden Ring has everything you could want from an RPG.
