The game is hard to put down, and even after you’ve acquired all the collectables, including all the Eggs and secret rabbits, and maybe the true ending, you’ll be wondering, eager to know what’s next on the list.
Finding the secret in-game audio message from the developers is the answer to that. However, this requires performing the most daring of feats, which involves annoying certain animals and subverting the game mechanics to solve what is dubbed by players as the wingding character (or unicode) puzzle.
Wingding Character Puzzle Explained
Thewingding character puzzle takes its name from a series of wingding messagesthat you’re able to find and piece together into a map to solve the puzzle.
For those unaware of wingdings, think of them as decorative elements or symbols used in fonts, which can include arrows, stars, check marks, smiley faces, and other different shapes.
How To Get The Wingding Messages
There are eight wingding messages that can be found in Animal Well, most of which can be interpreted as curses from the animals of the Well if you tick them off.

The Tamagochi’s message
Reach the top of the Wellwith the Animal Flute anduse the Top to dig the ground to the right. Thisleads you to a Tamagotchi pedometer, which you mustreach in less than 100 steps. At step count 99, you may unlock a chest containing a message in wingdings. The step count resets after 99,999 steps.
The kangaroo’s message
For the next wingding message, you’ll have toget back at thekangaroothat jump scares you at various parts of the map. In the room with the two dog statues, use the code ↖️⬆️↘️⬇️↙️⬇️⬅️⬇️ to reveal a hidden chamber where you cantrap the kangaroo.Immediately throw a Firecrackeronce it gets stuck to scare him off.
The hummingbird’s message
Notice how thehummingbird pops all your bubbles? With the upgradedBubble Wand, however, you canspawn countless bubbles, frustrating the hummingbird to the point that itcurses you back in wingdings. The best place to do that is the screen with the four animal statues where the bubble will rise to the screen above that has the hummingbird.
The squirrel’s message
The next wingding code can be obtained bysneaking up on five squirrelsin a single run. However, this will likely require a new save as the squirrels easily get startled and will run away.
The lynx’s message
You receive a wingding message from the Lynx if you play alengthy sequence of melodieswithout releasing its five kittens from the cages.
The chameleon’s message
If you weren’t already aware, thered chameleononly really does eight points of damagewhen it eats you. If you have one extra heart left, itbelches you out along with some wingding curses. Toincrease your total hearts, you can either eat the purple berries for a temporary boost or drink the groundhog’s potion for a permanent increase to your total hearts.
The Speedrunner’s message
This wingding message is by far the hardest to obtain, as you’ll have tospeedrun the gameby acquiring the true ending and reaching the second clock, where you find the message,in under an hour.
Blob’s message
Obtaining the final message is also not easy. While at full health, you’ll have togo around the map eating 100 berries without taking a single hit. To eat the red berries at full health, however, you’ll need to press the eat button three times.

Solving The Wingding Character Puzzle
Once you’ve obtained all eight wingding messages, it’s time to solve the puzzle.Head to your hometo find apixelated poster with eight different colorsnear the TV. That’s where the eight wingding messages go, which will reveal a map.

The map indicatesa path you’ll have to followthrough the endless skyfrom the far left side of the bunny temple to reach a secret floating island.
You’ll be able toreach this temple afterunlocking the true ending,collectingall the secret rabbits, andsolving the BDTP puzzle. By then, you’ll also haveacquired the moth form, which is needed to reach the island.
Starting from the ledge to the far left of the bunny temple,access your moth form by double jumpingand follow the directions as shown in the video to transition the screen.
