The Old World ofContent Warningis a treacherous place populated with all manner of monsters and foes. Maneuvering through the labyrinthine tunnels and rooms of each map can be disorienting, and you’re more likely to run into danger a second time than away from it.

In moments where you end up heading towards instead of away from more monsters, the best thing you can do is have an escape route. Since it’s difficult to plan escape routes around where monsters will spawn in the Old World, the next best thing is to bring a portable escape plan with you — the Rescue Hook.

How To Use The Rescue Hook

Using the Rescue Hook successfully takes some finesse and practice. There aretwo main waysthat you can use the Rescue Hook. The Rescue Hook is a gadget that allows you tograpple yourself to safety, propelling you in the direction that you fire the hook, or tograpple an ally towards youand to safety.

How To Save Yourself With The Rescue Hook

The Rescue Hook’s first use is tosave yourself.

When you’re in a dangerous situation like beingchased or attacked by a monster or trapped in an inescapable crevice, you’re able to use the Rescue Hook to grapple to safety. To do this, you can either blindly aim the Rescue Hook in the direction you believe you will be most safe, or you canaim the hook with a laserfor better accuracy.

You can alwayscheck the text box in the top right cornerof your screen to check what keys to use to control your gadgets, but the gist is that you can use theright mouse buttonto aim the hook and theleft mouse buttonto fire it.

The Rescue Hook only has so many charges, andit will run out of batterythe more you use it. When you are on your Sky Island, you can stand next to either theSolar Panel or the charging stationto recharge the Rescue Hook.

If you run out of charges while in the Old World, youwon’t be able to rechargethe Rescue Hook until youreturn to your Sky Islandat the end of the day.

Some monster attacks require the use of the Rescue Hook to free yourself. However, if you’re not careful, you could just as easily lose the Rescue Hook while trying to free yourself, so it’s best toweigh your choices carefullywhen in a sticky situation.

The downside of saving yourself with the Rescue hook is that once you have grappled yourself to the spot you aimed at,you will fall prone and be stuckmotionless on the ground for afew secondsbefore you are able to get up and start running.Don’tgrapple towards more enemies!

How To Save Your Allies With The Rescue Hook

Saving your allies works similarly to saving yourself, but themain difference is the success rate. Saving yourself takes a lot of practice, and if you aren’t using the Rescue Hook correctly, you may end up simply dragging yourself across the ground. Saving an ally is much simpler.

When your ally is in a tough spot or beingattacked or chased by a monster, you canaim the Rescue Hookat their body to grapple themtowards you. The hook will work much like a magnet and willpull your ally to youin a straight path.

So long as there areno obstaclesin between yourself and your ally, and youaren’tmoving in a way that will drag yourself into danger when you fire the gun, the path that your ally takes when grappled towards you will bestraight and direct.

Once your ally has been grappled towards you successfully, theRescue Hook will release its holdon them andrewind the hook wire. You will stilllose chargeswhen using the Rescue Hook to drag your allies to safety, just as you would when saving yourself.

Try not tofire through or towards monsters. You may end updragging your allyinto an enemy or worse, dragging an enemytowards yourself! The last thing you want is tolose your cameraand your Rescue Hook.
