When you think about it, there was one characterMultiVersusabsolutely needed. We already got Shaggy, we have Superman, then we got LeBron James. Needless to say, Jason, the gory horror icon, was the only character that made sense (naturally, paired with the Banana Guard from Adventure Time, but that almost goes without saying). Finally, the roster feels complete!
And Jason is true to form here. This menacing Brawler will stalk his prey with alarming efficiency, and deal dea… err… “ring outs” with shocking ferocity. Big screen-filling attacks, heavy hits, and sneaky mobility are the name of the game here. We’ll show you the ins and outs of this frightening addition to the roster!

Axe Slam
Neutral Attack
While the Axe Slam is a little slow, but it is chargeable, and it does a grip of damage. When you hold it, Jason will slowly walk forward. This isn’t an attack you are going to be able to land when skirmishing mid-platform.However, if your opponent is locked down by your partner, or they are approaching the ledge after being knocked away, this is a juicy attack that can do a fair amount of damage.
Fear The 13th
Forward Attack
This is a classic three-hit combo that ends with a grab. You don’t actually have to end with the grab either. Instead, you can swap the third hit out of a number of his other attacks and specials. That includes Crunch Time (up and attack) and No Escape (up and special).
Freight Train
Dash Attack
This is one of Jason’s primary methods for gaining ground on opponents. He is able to bullrush in using the Freight Train attack. If you have some gray health, this move is even better, as you will blow past projectiles. So, you can set the Freight Train attack up by using the Unstoppable Rage special move.
Crunch Time
Up Attack
This attack has a massive hit box and an excellent amount of knockback. It is one of the primary attacks that makes it extremely dangerous being above Jason. Notably, it will also hit characters beside Jason if they are too close, which will pop them up above him. While it isn’t a true combo, you’re able to cancel his Fear The 13th attack into this move (swapping out the grab ender for Crunch Time instead), which is a great way to put your opponent above Jason (which is where you want them).
In case we didn’t sell it hard enough, this is easily one of Jasons best moves. Use it frequently (but not recklessly).

Zombie Stomp
Down Attack
This is another slow, chargeable attack. And, as per usual, it hits like a truck. However, due to its somewhat limited range and slow speed, we never found a ton of use for it.
Scoop And Slice
Neutral Air
There is a pretty decent amount of range on this bad boy, and it is pretty quick; naturally, this makes it one of Jason’s better aerial approach tools. It carries your jump momentum nicely, so you can use this off an accelerated short hop to approach your opponents. Just make sure you let go of the forward button before you press the attack or you will get his Cut Them Down attack (which has better range, but is slower).
Cut Them Down
Aerial Forward Attack
This is a pretty beefy horizontal attack. Not super fast, butit does have averynice amount of range. You’ll likely use this attack quite frequently. Approaching grounded opponents by utilizing a short hop and this attack is often a pretty strong play.
From Below
Aerial Up Attack
As is the case with Crunch time, this is another incredible up attack. Jason does his best work when he is aiming for a vertical attack. While it doesn’t have a ton of knockback, its extremely long range does allow it to poke people off the screen from belowif they are hovering a little too close to the top of it. You will likely get a surprising number of kills using this attack.
6 Feet Under
Aerial Down Attack
This is a solid dunk attack. It is reasonably fast, and hits fairly hard. You can definitely get kills off of it, but Jason’s strength is more knocking people out via the top of the screen than the bottom.
Unstoppable Rage
Neutral Special
Here it is. This is the special move that really puts it all together. Jason’sUnstoppable Rage not only increases his damage, but it also increases the speed of his attacks. It also causes the next attack that lands to knockback further. Needless to say, this is the cornerstone of Jason’s moveset, though itwillcause a small amount of damage to Jason, so you’ll need to pick your spots with it.
Jason’s passive makes it so that when he has gray health he resists being knocked back, so Unstoppable Rage giving him grey health is a huge boon for the character, even if it still is a double edged sword of sorts.

Myst Step
Forward Special
This is Jason’s best mobility move.It teleports him a large amount of space forward and will hit if your opponent is too close when you do it.It is a great way for Jason to close the distance between himself and an opponent, and it can be a useful tool for evading attacks as well. If you get too close to him, you will get hit, and the move hasprettysolid knockback. This attack can also be performed in the air!
Just keep in mind thatyou arenotinvincible during the beginning or ending frames of this special. So, if your opponent attacks you while you are performing it, youwillbe hit.

No Escape
Up Special
While No Escapedoeshit above Jason, it is worth noting that it feels more like a forward special (though it does hit above his head as well). Don’t worry, he has enough potent attacks that hit above his head already. He didn’t need another. This attack hits twice, has decent range, and does solid damage. The best part about it is that you can cancel your Fear The 13th side attack into it (swapping the grab ending for this special),making it easy to work in.
Sweet Dreams
Down Special
This special captures your opponent, allows you to slam them against the ground to deal damage to them, andwill allow you to throw them, turning them into a projectile. It has pretty stubby range, but if you land it you’ll be able to put a hurtin' on your foe. We pretty exclusively use this during doubles. In 1v1 matches we think there are better options.
The Slasher
Aerial Neutral Attack
Grab your foe and stab them multiple times. This is a solid move and can be used out of a short hop to grab grounded opponents.
Risen Strike
Aerial Up Special
This is a less rangy aerial up attack, but unlike the From Below attack, it has someseriousknockback power. While you will want to make good use of this special, be careful, this attack does lose out to some of the better down attacks.
General Strategy
When playing Jason, you are going to want toanchor your gameplan around the strategic use of Unstoppable Rage(Neutral Special). Jason’s attacks are large, and do a lot of damage, but they are generally alittleon the slow side. However, the burst of speed you get from Unstoppable Rage really helps to mitigate that.Fighting outside of your opponents' range, and swiping at them with your big attacks is often a smart play. Then, when they think they are safe, pop that Unstoppable Rage and lunge in with a big button. Fear The 13th (forward attack) or No Escape (up special) are great candidates.
Remember,if you land that Fear The 13th (forward attack) move, you can cancel the ending with your Crunch Time(up attack) to pop your opponent into the air.

Beyond that, your up attacks are all really, really good. So, if you see someone taking to the air, take advantage of that. From Below (Aerial Up Attack) is particularly strong, and will most certainly help you rack up damage. In general, when you are below your opponent you are in a great position.
A great sequence for knocking your opponent off the screen is Crunch Time into Risen Strike and followed up with his From Below aerial attack to poke them out at the top of the screen. We know that may seem like an odd sequence as Risen Strike has the better knockback, but since it naturally leaves Jason at the ideal range to land his From Below attack, while also leaving the opponent close to the top of the screen, it ends up working quite well. Swapping the order of Risen Strike and From Below, on the other hand, doesn’t really work.

Also, don’t forget his Myst Step and his throw attacks. The Myst Step lets you close the distance both on the ground and in the air, which makes it much easier to land his The Slash (aerial neutral special) and Sweet Dreams (down special) grappling attacks. These are good for big damage and can beprettytricky when paired with that Myst Step. We don’t think the grappling moves are a central element of Jason’s gameplan, but mixing them into his offense is a great way to keep your opponent guessing.
