In the previous chapter atBotany Manor, specifically in the Orchard section, you had bloomed two plants named Wolfglove and Pixie Tears. The puzzles in the game are getting increasingly difficult. In Chapter Four, titled Botanical Allies, there are four plants that you need to unravel the mystery of: Nightfall, Brook Chalice, Cradle Fern, and Sapphire Gloom.

Researching these plants will be facilitated on the first floor of the Manor, which you unlocked in the previous chapter. As you gather clues and understand which one of them belongs to which plant, you can grow all four easily. If you’re ready, let’s begin Chapter Four!

Botany Manor - Player decodes library’s lock

Gather Clues From Fable Books

As you may recall, towards the end of Chapter Three, you ascended to the upper floor of the manor and solved the code on the library door. For those who don’t remember, the code was ‘EAH.‘Then, you entered through the right door, and Chapter Four began. In this chapter, you’ll encounter four different plants that you’ll attempt to solve and bloom.

Enter the room you’re currently in through the right door, andyou’ll reach the library, which is quite large. Directly to the left of it,there’s a bookshelf with round buttonsadorned with various symbols that you can interact with, but for now, keep that in mind to come back to later.

Botany Manor - A bookshelf that has various symbols above it

Read theopen storybook on the central table. This book is known as ‘The Fox and The Crow’. Additionally, to theleft of the mosaic windowin the forward part of this floor, there’s a book titled ‘Wonders of the Night Sky.’

Apart from these, despite the apparent size of the library on this floor, there are no other cluesthat will be useful to you for now. Return andascend the stairs in the room you’ve entered.

Botany Manor - A stair that has two sofa in front of it

Now, you’ve reached the upper floor of the Library. As you proceed straight ahead, between two small potted cacti on a shelf, you’llsee ‘The Golden Fish’ story.Similar to the previous crow story, this is also a fable.

Further along from where the book is located, on a small wooden ladder, there’s a ‘New Year Ball Invitation’ implying that your cousin sent it to you and hinting that you might find someone special in your life.

Botany Manor - Player reads a fable named Golden Fish

This floor is designed in a U-shape, and as younavigate around the railings, you’ll come across another story that everyone may have heard of:‘The Hare and the Tortoise’ fable.Just beyond that isa book titled ‘The Rising Sun.’

Enter Grandmother’s Secret Vault

Descend back to the lower floor.Return to the bookshelf with symbols on it, located to the left of ‘The Fox and the Crow’ fable. So far, you’ve examined three different fables and two books. What was their commonality? The answer is actually hidden in the first words of the fables.

Each fable begins by describing a specific time of day. Additionally, you’ve readtwo books about the rising sun and the night sky.The order should be as follows:

Botany Manor - Player discovered Grandmother’s secret vault

The Hare and The Tortoise

The Fox and The Crow

Botany Manor - Player inspects various colored sunset paintings

Night

Moon

When you select the symbols in this order,a secret compartment will open.

Opening the secret compartment alsounlocks the ‘Grandmother’s Vault’ achievement.

Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by paintings hanging on the left wall. These arepaintings made at various times depicting the colors of the sunset. There are a total of seven Sunset paintings on the walls of this secret compartment.

Additionally, on the covered table to the left of the chest, there’s an old newspaper titled ‘London Record.’ However, the most important thing in this compartment is theseed bag in front of the bookshelf, which belongs to the flower named Nightfall.

Botany Manor - Player finds the seedbag of Nightfall

In addition, to the right of where you found the seed of Nightfall, you’llfind the key to the Study inside a tray.To the right of the tray, there’s Grandma’s Research. She visited to bloom this flower in her time. She deduced that this floweronly blooms at sunset and only during certain times of the year.

Grandma’s Research and the Sunset Paintings you see in this room are clues.Place them in the Nightfall’s Clues section.

Botany Manor - Player finds the seedbag of Sapphire Gloom

How To Bloom The Sapphire Gloom

Return to the locked door you opened when you first entered the Library. Here, you’ll see the Study door. First, look in front of the mirror on your right. Here, there’s a letter from Anne and a book titled ‘Meadow Orchids.’

The most important thing in this room is theseed bag located in front of the bookshelf, next to the chair. This belongs to Sapphire Gloom.

Botany Manor - Player reads a book about fungi

Additionally, on the piano-shaped table, there’s a Fungi Book. It indicates that some fungi are carnivorous and even eat trees. Although the book suggests cutting these fungi off the tree, it’s noted that this doesn’t always work. Themost crucial information in the book is thatsome fungi also feed on parasites.

Of course, this book is a clue, soplace it in Sapphire Gloom’s clues section.Next to the book, there’s a note from Uncle Theodore.

Botany Manor - A book displays the look of a tree that infected with Root Parasite

There are still things to do in this room. There’s a book titled ‘Tree Diseases’ in front of the bookshelf. The information in this book is important for knowinghow a tree infected with Root Parasite looks.Additionally, it states that there is no solution to this disease it spreads.

Place this book in Sapphire Gloom’s cluessection as well. So, you’ve found two clues and its seed. All that’s left is to grow it.

On the left side of the book, there arevarious bird eggs. They are also a clue, but it’s unclear what they match with at the moment. There’s nothing more you can do in this room; leave anddescend to the Main Hallfrom this floor.

Take a look at the tree oddly positioned in the Main Hall. Perhaps you’ve passed by it countless times, unable to grasp why it stands there. Well, now it’s time to solve its puzzle. Do the textures on the tree seem familiar to you? That’s Root Parasite disease. This means theparasites on the tree make for quite an ideal meal for the carnivorous Sapphire Gloom.

Once you’ve entered the Main Hall and found the Seed Table in front of the door leading outside, grab a pot from there, add soil, plant the Sapphire Gloom, and finally water it. When small mushrooms appear in the pot, take them and place them on the saucer under the infected treein the hall.

Mysteriously, themushrooms will consume the parasites on the tree, consequently greening it up, and the Sapphire Gloom will have grown. Thus, you’ve solved its puzzle.

Reach The Bathroom And Solve The Pipe Puzzle

Now, ascend the stairs on the right side of the Main Hall once again. Don’t enter the Library Hall section; proceed straight ahead. Now that you’ve healed the tree, its branches won’t block the entrance anymore, and you’ll be able to enter through the door ahead.

As you turn right down this corridor, you’llfind a painting hanging on the wall above a drawer table. This painting, named ‘Trapped Fairy,’ is a clue, but currently, there’s no hint as to what it could be matched with.

There’s also a ‘Letter about Weeds’ in front of the locked door to the Attic. In this letter, Edith mentionsBrook Chalice blooming in water.Naturally, this clue pertains to the Brook Chalice,so don’t forget to place it in the relevant Clues section.

Continue down the corridor to the other end. On your right side, you’ll see apainting related to Cradle Fern.Place this clue, named “Fern Painting,” in the Clues section for the fern. When you reach the end of the corridor, you’ll see doors on both the left and right sides.

Enter the door on the right. You are now in the Master Bedroom. Start bytaking the seed bag from the table. This one belongs to the Cradle Fern.

Additionally, there’s aPetition on the tablementioning how hunting in Somerset’s river section has led to the extinction of some bird species, with your signature on the back. This is also a clue, but it’s uncertain what it will match with for now.

Furthermore, on the left side of the window in the room, there’s astorybook titled ‘Trapped Fairy.‘It tells a story about the goddess of the night, Nyx, and a little fairy who got trapped inside a flower bud forever. This is a clue related to Nightfall.

You canplace the Fairy Book and the Fairy Painting you saw in the corridor in Nightfall’s cluessection. Other things you’re able to look at in this room include a photo of your deceased cat, Nova, a letter from Eliza, and some medications. Open the green door and enter the bathroom.

Flushing the toilet here willunlock the achievement called ‘Clean and Tidy.’

In the bathroom, there’s a classic pipe puzzle. Here are the locations of the pipe pieces:

Once you’ve placed all the pipes, you’llunlock the achievement called ‘Who Needs A Plumber?’.

Additionally, there’s a Plumbing Quote next to the toilet and a Bath Geyser Manual on the table to the left of the bathtub. The Bath Geyser Manual is a clue, but since it’s currently unknown, it should wait.

Reach The Attic And Gather Obtain Chalice Seeds

Exit the bathroom and the Master Bedroom for now.Reach the corridor where there’s a seed table, but it should wait for now. Open the door on the right side of the seed table. There’s a note on top of the chest belonging to Professor Montague. Also, on the table to the left of the chest, there’s anAttic key on a tray.

Add this to Brook Chalice’s clues section as well. Enter through the door on the left side of the bulletin board.

Here, there’s a letter from Marianne on the table mentioning thatsome plants are sensitive to sound.Additionally, there’s animage in this small room about Somerset’s rivers.Add the River Poster toBrook Chalice’s clues section.

There’s nothing more to do in this room, so return to the previous room andascend the wooden stairs. Here, bells are hanging around the table where the saucer is placed. Additionally, there’s abook titled ‘Bird Calls’ on the table.

Descend back down to the corridor with the seed table. You should now be able toopen the Attic door at the other end of the corridor. On the wooden box here, there’s abrochure about Trapped Moths, stating that flowers that bloom only in certain parts of the year can trap moths for a few months.

Since this information is related to Nightfall, add this clue to its section. On the wall above the table with candles, there’s a Moth Poster, and on the table, there’s a Moth Spotting Calendar. Since moths are a clue related to Nightfall, add both of these to its cluessection as well.

Upon reaching the top of these stairs, you’llarrive in the Attic. Right at the entrance of the Attic, there’s a table with a Rusty Pig on it. There’s something significant on this table:a book titled ‘Sight of Plants’mentions that some scientists believeflowers perceive light color, and certain challenging flowers only bloom during their preferred time.

Add this toNightfall’s clues section to completethe clues.

Additionally, there’s a machine called the Magic Lantern here, whichprojects light onto a screen, along with color slides. With this machine and the colors, you may induce Nightfall to bloom.

But before that, take a look at the other items here. There’s a letter from Aunt Agnes on top of the suitcases about a dinner. On the left side of the mosaic attic window, there’s a Mallard figurine. On the right side, there’s a Brook Chalice seed packet on a covered table.

How To Bloom The Nightfall

Then it’s time to make Nightfall bloom. First, remember the Fairy Painting, and when you match it with the Moths of England found in the lower part of the attic. You’ll see that the wings of the Garden Tiger Moth are the same as those ofthe fairyin the painting.

When you look at the Moth Calendar, you’ll see thatthis moth is spotted only in September.Do you remember the paintings in the hidden section of the library that were painted according to various times of the sunset? Thesunset colors for September were: Blue, Yellow, Orange, and Red.

Keep these colors in mind, and grab a pot from the seed table across the corridor when you enter the attic. Add soil, plant Nightfall’s seed, and water it. Then, take the pot andplace it on the saucer in front of the magic lantern in the attic.

The color slides you load into the Magic Lantern shouldrepresent the sunset colors of September: Blue, Yellow, Orange, and Red.Insert them into the machine’s compartment. Then, press the red button to start the machine. This will result in the flower blooming after various colors are projected onto it, allowing Nightfall to bloom.

How To Bloom The Cradle Fern

It’s time to bloom another flower, the Cradle Fern. You saw a Fern Painting in the corridor. Upon careful examination, you willnotice bird eggs in the middle of it.Place Bird Eggs from the clues into the section for Cradle Fern. Similarly, do the same for Bird Calls.

The Letter About Melodies found in the Bell Tower also mentioned thatsome flowers respond to sounds. Add that to the Cradle Fern’s clues section as well.

Lastly, if you recall, you read a Petition in the Master Bedroom stating that illegal hunting led to the extinction of some bird species. Since Cradle Fern is related to sound and birds, add this to its clues section, too.

Now, what you need to do isunderstand what the egg in the middle of the Cradle Fernpainting in the corridor represents. You canuse the eggs in the Study Room to figure this out.The egg that concerns you is between white and turquoise colors with small symbols resembling water droplets on it. This indicates that the egg you’re looking for is the Crested Owl Egg.

Grab a pot from the Seed Table in the corridor, add soil, and then plant the Cradle Fern seed. After watering it,head up to the Bell Tower from the stairs in the roomon the right side of the seed table in the corridor.

Place the plant on the saucer in this area. The notebook in this room shows thecall notes for summoning the Crested Owl as follows:E – C – D – E – G – F.

If youplay the bells in this order, the plant will grow.

How To Bloom The Brook Chalice

Next up is the Brook Chalice. The only relevant clue you have left to place on this plant is the Bath Geyser. When youadd this to the plant’s clue section, you’ll have found all its clues. The first thing you need to do here is, as usual, plant the seed of this plant in a pot from the seed table and water it.

Then, take it to the bathroom, where you solved the pipe puzzle, andplace it in the saucer inside the bathtub. If you recall, a company was dumping rust and scrap metal into the rivers where this weed grows. The only source of rust you can obtain is theRusted Pig figurine found on the table at the entrance of the attic.

Take this and throw it into the bathtub. Remember the Government Notice on the mushroom board under the Bell Tower. It mentioned some affected rivers, but the crucial information follows: theRiver Frome was affected by rust but miraculously recovered from its effects. The reason is already evident: the Brook Chalice.

If you remember from the poster, the averagetemperature of the River Frome is 25 degrees.Go to the bathroom, set the boiler to 25 degrees, and fill the bathtub. This way, the initially rusty water will be cleaned by the weed spreading, thus causing it to grow.

By solving the puzzles of the four mysterious plants in Chapter Four, you’ve successfully grown them. Finally, you’llreceive a Gatehouse Delivery notification.Along with Jimmy’s apology letter, you’llfind the key to the Formal Garden in the tray.

Return to the main hall of the Manor, enter the corridor to theleft of the tree covered in mushrooms, and head to the side of the corridor that leads to the outside. This is the Orangery, andat the end of its garden is the gate to the Formal Garden.Upon entering there, Chapter Four will come to an end, and Chapter Five will begin.
