Animal Wellis the first indie title to come from Bigmode, a publisher created bybeloved YouTuber Dunkey, and it’s taken the internet by storm. In aMetroidvania without combat, you’ll need to collect a series of adorable, everyday items and use them in some pretty creative ways to solve assorted puzzles.

One of the upgrades in Animal Well is the Yoyo, but finding it is no small feat. You’ll need to make it past waves of multicolor mice, ride some rather helpful white birds, and even outsmart an Ostrich that’s eager to fight. Here’s where to find the Yoyo!

You need the B. Wandto be able to access the area leading to the Yoyo,as well as the Disc, so check out our guides to these upgrade locations if you don’t have them yet!

The less you know about Animal Well going into it, the better - some spoilers ahead!

Your path to the Yoyo in Animal Well liesto the right of the four flamesin the central area from where you first emerged at the start of the game. Hop across the opening beneath the large rabbit puzzle, and you’ll enter a room withfloating mouse headsbouncing around, obstructing several platforms. There’s also aswitch near the ceiling in the center of the room, quite high up.

In the areas ahead, it’s helpful to keep in mind thatpink mice heads move horizontally, whileblue heads move vertically. This helps you know how to approach puzzles like this, as there areseveralmouse head puzzles ahead.

In this room,jump across the platformsuntil you reach the longer one on the right side of the room. Here, you’ll need toblow a bubbleand use it to bounce to the higher platforms, beforejumping to hit the switchnear the statue in the center of the room. Thisopens the door by the entrance, so head back there andclimb down the ladderyou just unlocked.

The Ostrich And Mouse Statue Room

Below, you’ll land on a solid platform where you can see (and hear) apink mouse head by the ceiling hitting a switchthat controls all theappearing and disappearing platformsin this room abovespikes in the floor. Your goal here is totime your jumps to make it to the bottom right cornerof the room.

We found it easiest to rely on thesoundof the mouse hitting the switch. There’s a noise when it hits the switch and then a slight delay before the platforms change, so get into the rhythm of the jump and this room will be a breeze.

When you fall into this opening, you’ll find anOstrich and Mice statuein the center of the room, above aladderyou can’t access just yet. There’s atelephonehere in theroom to the left of the statue, so save your game to respawn here should anything happen up ahead to save time backtracking.

From the statue,go rightthrough the hanging vines and into a room withsolid and transparent wallsyou can switch on and off, but there’snot a switch for them in this room. As such, you’ll need toclimb down the ladderto begin moving forward.

There’s anunlit candlein this room just above the ladder leading to the next portion of the puzzle, meaning aspirit will spawn in this roomcontinuously unless youhave a matchon you and choose tolight the candle. you’re able to also get byusing Firecrackersif you don’t have a spare match.

Below you in this room is the switch that changes the transparency of the walls and platforms in the room above, but you’ll need tocarefully make your way beneath the waves of blue mice headsin the area below to get around the blockade and hit the switch. However, as you do,take notice that the heads disappear in the light- it’s important for a puzzle ahead.

Three White Bird Puzzle

Hit the switch and go back up the ladderinto the room with the candle, which has changed with the switch.Proceed rightinto this newly unlocked area, and you’ll find yourself in a room withthree white birdsflying above afloor covered in spikes.

When youstep onto the lower white bird, you’ll find thatthese birds follow your movements left and rightthroughout the room, which will help you reach theswitch in the upper right corner, illuminated in pink.

To solve the three white bird puzzle in Animal Well, you’ll need to:

After hitting the switch, a section of floor near where you’re standing will be transparent, sojump downand headback into the last room, which has once again changed in terms of which platforms you’re able to access.

Two Columns Of Pink Mouse Heads

The roomat the top of the ladderin the room you changed leads you to a room withtwo bouncing columns of pink mouse heads, which ricochet offthe walls and one anotherto create a moving wave of obstacles along theplatforms leading to a switch in the top right cornerof the room.

This can be a bit tricky, but you’ll need towait for the mice heads to move right, and quickly jump to the highest platform in the middle of the room.

Here,blow a bubbleand use it to jump over the mouse heads and onto the platform just below the highest one. From here,jump to the platforms on the rightand use them to jump up to the corner andhit the switch.

You have a moment where you don’t take damage again after taking damage initially, which can be used to your advantage if you need a free hit to make it through the room. No shame - we did it once or twice!

Underground Rat Puzzle

The room at the bottom of theladder beneath the Ostrich and Mouse statue, which you’ve just unlocked, istoo dark tosee your map. However, you’ll barely be able to make out ablocked path on the left, and the correspondingthree yellow buttons around the room.

But it’s not nearly as straightforward as it seems, since arat will appear from the darknessperiodically, and it’s pretty intent on attacking you. Not only can ithurt you if it touches you, but it can alsothrow its head as a ranged weaponto hurt you from afar. Not only that, but there arespikes on the ceilingthat can make jumping over the mouse or its head tricky.

Being careful of the rat, here’s how to reach the switches:

Once you’ve unlocked the path on the left side of the room, get back toward the top andgo down the path you just unblocked.

The Ostrich Puzzle

The area ahead requires you tojump into the floorto access a series of hidden tunnels and the buttons hidden within them to open the blocked pathways. One of thetoughest times you’re asked to do thisis whilesolving the Ostrich puzzle, which is a critical component to carrying on and collecting the Yoyo upgrade in Animal Well.

However, since it can be a bit complicated, we’ve gota separate guidededicated solely to that frustrating Ostrich fight.Solve the Ostrich puzzleto proceed.

Yoyo Upgrade Location In Animal Well

After you’ve finished with the Ostrich puzzle,go into the room on the leftthat you just unlocked by hitting all those terrifying underground switches. You’ll see a chest on the far left side of the room, but you may’t quite reach it yet, so all there is to do is eat the nearby fruit if you need to regain health andjump off the platform.

You can ride a bubble down if you want, but you can’t access the only pathway you’ll see on the way down just yet, and you don’t take fall damage here, so jumping is totally fine.

You’ll land in aniridescent roomfull ofglowworms and illuminated vines, so be sure touse the telephone hereto save your game if need be (and create a new respawn point if you’d like). From the telephone, hop along the platforms andgo rightinto the next room.

Here, you’ll seeseveral yellow switches you can’t hitright now, as well as a ladder behind a blocked path correlating to said switches, so the best thing to do here is tojump to the middle platformand then follow the one glowworm hereto the room on the right.

This positively radiant room features achest on a platform in the middle, so hop on over and open it up to unlock the Yoyo in Animal Well!
