In “The Horn of Plenty”, Demeter is back to her merry-making, nature-restoring, antics. Who can blame her? Tokyo’s seen better days. ThisShin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeanceside quest will pop up in one region or the other, depending on which story route you’ve chosen - but the gist is the same, either way.
Demeter’s directions on where to find this fabled horn leave something to be desired. And by “something to be desired”, we mean she doesn’t really say much at all. At least, not in the Shinjuku version. We’ll help you find it, and we’ll make sure you live to tell the tale!
How To Start “The Horn Of Plenty”
Before we dive in, we should mention thatwe completed “The Horn of Plenty"through the game’s"Canon of Vengeance” route. As such, we scouted locations inShinjuku, rather thanChiyoda, but we can still guide you to Chiyoda’s destinations.
Regardless which story path you’re on,Demeter will not be at her designated Shinjuku/Chiyoda location until you’ve completed her prior quest, “Tyrant of Tennozu”, in theShinagawa region.
Directions For Shinjuku
This applies to both Shinjuku and Chiyoda, butthere’s a good chance you may encounter the Chimera prior to Demeter. If this happens, no worries;you’ll obtain the Horn of Plenty upon its defeateither way.
Shinjuku’s Chimera location is rather out-of-the-way, however. Well it is, and it isn’t. You see,you’ll be using Shinjuku’s very first leyline to get to it, but it’s still a fair bit of a walk.
The Chimera can be found at the bottom-right part of the map, or put another way,the southeast corner. As you explore, you’ll find thatthere’s a somewhat long, thin, strip of the map connecting to an elevated area.
You’ll know you’ve successfully navigated this stretch toward your goal whenyou begin to slide down this strip. Follow it to the end, and save your game before fighting the beast.
As forDemeterherself, she’s hanging outinside a building in the Shinjuku 3rd Blockarea. If you’ve felled the Chimera prior to reaching it, just chat with her afterward, get the quest, and she’ll notice you’ve got the Horn of Plenty.
Directions For Chiyoda
Chiyoda’s rather simpler by comparison.Chimera is located in the Sukibayashi portion of the map, and it’s in a relatively open space by comparison, so it’s harder to miss.
Therefore, you’ll want toteleport to the Sukibayashi leyline fount(or, if you’re here for the first time, tap into it so you have a fast travel spot in case things go south).
For Demeter herself,find her in Otemachi. Since quest givers’note icons on the mapwill only pop up when you’ve reached their general area, you cankeep an eye out for the icononce you’re in Otemachi.
How To Beat The Minotaur
It’s entirely possible thatyou’ll be several levels lower than the Minotaurupon first encountering it, especially if you attempt to defeat it in Shinjuku before reaching Demeter “later” in the zone.
That said,we were able to defeat it with a mid-forties party. With relative ease, too. Besides the Nahobino, our party consisted ofYoko, Alice, and Hayataro.
Yoko won’t be available for you in the Canon of Creation route, butshe wasn’t particularly vital to the fightfor us; we just happened to have her active at the time.
Chimera’s top stat is Strength, so expectdeadly physical blows.But it also wieldsMaragion and Ziodyne, so attempt to keep your party free of charactersweak to fire and/or electric.
Chimera’s sole weakness is force. Itsmultitarget fire attackcan be thwarted withFire Dampener, so bring those along!
So, how did we beat it?Hayataro’s “Witness Me” skill draws aggro while raising accuracy and evasion, making him the classic archetypal “dodge tank.”
Hayataro also, wonderfully,resists physical-type attacks and completely nulls electric-type attacks.
Nulling (or absorbing) attackslowers the number of actions on the failed attacker’s Press Turn, exacerbating Chimera’s problems even when it successfully lands a hit on Hayataro.
Other than that,Alice tapped into the powerful Freikugal EXduring Magatsuhi Gauge rounds. Don’t feel like you need Alice; Chimera’s hardly weak to her standard dark attacks.
But Freikugal EX is almighty-type, andwith a high enough magic stat, it can shred huge chunks off enemy HP. At that point, it hardly even mattered what the Nahobino and Yoko were doing, sowe had them heal up and buff the team.
When the Chimera is defeated,you’ll receive the Horn of Plentyautomatically. Bring it to Demeter, who will reward you withthe Megami Talisman, which teaches Eternal Prayer.
Eternal Prayer fully restores HP, cures all status ailments,andrevives all fallen allies, making it one of Shin Megami Tensei 5’s best healing spells!
