You’re tasked by your late grandfather to be the new farmer to care for his land inStardew Valley. As the next farmer, you can do various activities to earn money, such as farming, fishing, foraging, and mining. You’re given tools that will help you on the farm, and you can upgrade these to be more powerful.
You’ll need different types of bars smelted from ores in order to upgrade your tools. These bars can also be used to craft various items and machines. You’ll be using a furnace to smelt your ores, and you’re able to upgrade your furnace to aHeavy Furnaceonce you unlock the recipe for it.
How To Unlock The Heavy Furnace Recipe
To unlock the Heavy Furnace recipe, you’ll need tounlock Mining Mastery in the Mastery Cave.
The Mastery Cave is locked behind a door in thesoutheast corner of the Cindersnap Forest, and it’ll only be unlocked once you master all five of your skills.
The five skills you need to master in order to access the Mastery Cave areForaging, Mining, Fishing, Combat, and Farming.
Once unlocked, you’ll be able toearn points to unlock the mastery levels for each skill. These points are just regular experience points earned beyond level ten.
Once the Mastery Cave is unlocked,any skill action performed will earn you experience pointsthat you can use to unlock the mastery of a skill.
You’ll need tocomplete a level of ‘The final path’, which can be viewed by interacting with the note in the center of the Mastery Cave, to unlock Mining Mastery.
Once you unlock Mining Mastery, you’llgain the recipe to craft a Heavy Furnace.

This can be crafted using25 stones and 20 copper ores.

This can be acquired bymining rocks.
Once you have your Heavy Furnace, you’ll be able to use it to smelt ore. You’ll need25 pieces of a type of ore and three pieces ofcoalin order to use it.
With this, you’ll be able to save time and space by smelting several ores at once, andyou’ll be using less coal.
The Heavy Furnace hasa chance to produce an extra barduring the smelting process.
