At the start of everyStardew Valleyplaythrough, you will be asked if you want to adopt either a cat or a dog, which will live on your farm. Both of these animals come in five different breeds, and must be cared for daily.
As you upgrade your skills and farm, you’ll eventually unlock the ability to adopt as many pets as you want, so long as you have the necessary funds and resources. If you are curious about how you may adopt additional pets in Stardew Valley, then we have you covered.
How To Unlock Pet Adoption
Just because you want to adopt a new pet does not mean you may instantly do so, as many prerequisites must be met before you can add another furry friend to your family. First, you will need to ensure that you havemaximum friendship with the cat or dog that you started the game with.
To raise your pet’s friendship level, you mustfill up their water bowl and pet them once per day.After your starting pet has reached maximum friendship, you will unlock the ability toadopt a new pet and build additional pet bowlsat Robin’s shop.
On days when it israining or snowing,you will not have to fill up your pet’s water bowl.

How To Adopt A Pet
Once you are ready to take on another pet, you canhead to Marnie’s shop and purchase either a cat, dog, or turtlefor varying amounts of gold. There are five different cat breeds, and five dog breeds, witheach breed costing you 40,000g.
Even though the horse is counted as a pet,you will not be able to adopt another horse at Marnie’s shop.The only way to obtain a horse is by building the stable at Robin’s shop.
There are also currentlytwo different colored turtlesthat can be adopted, with the color determining how much the turtle costs. Thegreen turtle costs 60,000g,while the purple turtle will cost youa whopping 500,000g.
After you adopt a pet from Marnie, you will need to raise this new pet’s friendship level to fullbefore you can adopt a third animal. This process will indefinitely continue until you have adopted every pet.
