Manor Lordsimmerses you in a historically accurate medieval world, where bandits, raiders, and rival lords constantly threaten the security of your developing village and challenge your leadership. Toprotect your village from raidsand invasions, you need a strong military, including a well-trained Retinue.
Retinues in Manor Lords are considered the bestfighting force in the gamedue to their superior combat skills. Unlike the Militia (townsfolk who fight) and Mercenaries (hired soldiers), Retinues are professional, highly trained soldiers dedicated solely to protecting your village. This guide can help you recruit more soldiers and increase your Retinue size.
How To Increase Retinue Size
Once youbuild a Manor in your settlement, you will unlock the Retinue. The Manor requires reaching the Small Village level andgathering five Timber, 20 Planks, and 15 Stones.
While you initially receive a small Retinue comprisingfive soldiersin total, you can increase your Retinue size in three ways.
Purchase From Retinue Customization Menu
To expand your Retinue, click on theArmybutton at the bottom of your screen. Next, select yourRetinueout of the available units andclick on the paintbrush icon. This opens up theRetinue Customizationmenu, where you canedit, customize, and upgrade your troops.
Click onRecruit Man-at-Armsto add another man to your Retinue, each at a cost of50 goldfromyourpersonalTreasury.you may increase your Retinue size to amaximum of 12 soldiersthis way.
There is also another feature where you canpromote a regular townsman into your Retinue.However, this feature is currently locked in the Early Access version of Manor Lords.
Make sure you set your taxes to be turned on in your Manor building to get Treasury funds.
Build Garrison Towers
Building a Garrison Tower increases your maximum Retinue size by anadditional 12 soldiers, bringing the new total to 24.This structure is available from the Castle Planner menu. Itcosts ten Timber, 15 Planks, and ten Stonesto build.
Only one Garrison Tower can be built per region, which means you can only have a maximum of 24 Retinue soldiers before youneed to expand your territory.
Build Manors in Other Regions
If you manage toconquer new regionsand establish additional villages, you can build a Manor in each one. This allows you to haveseparate Retinuesstationed in different locations, expanding your overall military presence.
