Diablo 4’sLoot Reborn gave a ton of endgame content to players through itemizations. The game has enchanting, gem socketing, Tempering, and Masterworking, which alters gear pieces to be stronger than what they were originally.

Before you dabble in any of these features, you should learn more about greater affixes and why they should be considered the peak of itemization in Diablo 4. You might waste a few resources, such as gold and materials, before finding out some items are easily replaceable by these items with greater affixes.

What Are Greater Affixes?

Greater affixes are stat rolls on your item with asun-like icon next to the item’s name or the affix. The affected affix will have the maximum roll for the specific stat and an additional 50 percent effect for the rolled affix.

For example, if you have a gear piece with a greater affix on a movement speed roll, it’ll havea fixed max roll plus 50 percent. Every amulet you get with a greater affix of movement speed will be the same, 27 percent movement speed bonus.

An item can have a total ofthree greater affixes. If you see an item with three greater affixes, it’ll also have three icons or symbols like the one mentioned before. Everyone is going to be farming a greater affixed version of their best gear, andfarming them will be the peak strength of any buildout there.

Enchanted amulet with a greater affix

Thechances of finding items with greater affixes are very low, but they increase as you finish harder and harder content. If you start going through tier 60+ nightmare dungeons or dive to tier 30+ Pits, you’ll start seeing them more frequently. However, it doesn’t guarantee you’ll get the perfect greater affix for your build.

Greater Affix Mechanics

How do you upgrade your gear with a greater affix? Firstly, you can look to enchant the piece andreroll an affix you don’t want to keep. Youcan’t enchant a greater affix roll and still keep the greater affix buff. If you enchant and replace a greater affix that rolled 13.5 percent attack speed, it’ll roll normal affixes instead and the greater affix will disappear forever.

In short, never enchant a greater affix.

You need to look for a specificgear with a greater affix suited for your build.A piece of gear with three greater affixes that is perfect for your build is extremely rare to find. However, finding one or two pieces is attainable, andyou should be careful when you are upgrading them.

Once you unlock Masterworking by diving into the Pit, you can improve on thegreater affixes even more by adding a five percent affix bonus per Masterwork upgrade. You can have a total of12 Masterwork upgrades per gear piece, meaning you’ll get to amplify the greater affix exponentially.
