Apart from tending to your grandpa’s old farm inStardew Valley, you can also engage in combat in the various mines and dungeons. Valuable resources and treasures can be found in these areas, but all sorts of enemies will be coming at you while you explore.
If you find yourself outmatched by the monsters you’re facing, you can gear up with various pieces of equipment to improve your chances of survival. You can equip weapons, rings, boots, and trinkets. Trinkets are items that will give you a special ability or a companion that can assist you in combat. One such trinket is theParrot Egg.
How To Get A Parrot Egg
Trinkets cannot be found until youunlock Combat Mastery in the Mastery Cave. This is a location found in thesoutheast corner of Cindersap Forest. The door to the cave will be locked until youreach level ten in all of your skills.
The different skills you need to master in order to unlock the door to the Mastery Cave areforaging, farming, combat, fishing, and mining.
Once you get into the Mastery Cave, you’ll findfive pillars representing each skill. Combat Mastery is available at the pillar with theimage of a sword. To unlock one of these pillars, you’ll need toreach a level of total mastery points, which can be earned byearning experience points in any skill.
Once the Mastery Cave is open,any action performed using any skill that gives experience pointswill contribute to mastery points instead.
Once you have enough mastery points to unlock a pillar, you’ll receive a notification stating,“You have reached a new level of understanding…”. Once you see this, you can proceed to unlock Combat Mastery in order to start finding trinkets.
Parrot Eggs can be found intreasure chests on special treasure floors in the Skull Cavern. They can also bedropped by defeated monsters.
How To Use A Parrot Egg
A Parrot Egg is primarily used as atrinket, but it can also be given as agift to villagers.
Using A Parrot Egg As A Trinket
Parrot Eggs can beequipped in your trinket slot. Once you have it equipped,a parrot will start following you around.
Parrotsdo not take damagefrom enemy attacks or explosions. They will remain by your side as long as you have the Parrot Egg equipped as a trinket.
Parrots are great companions if you want to use combat as a way of earning additional income, because they grant you achance to get gold coins from defeating enemies. This chance increases as the parrot’s level increases, and this cango up to level four. A gold coin is worth250 gold.

The amount of gold that you can receive from defeated enemies israndom, but it’s likely to gethigher amounts as your parrot’s level goes up.
Your parrot can only level up byusing your Parrot Egg on an anvil. Using a trinket on an anvil will allow you to re-roll the stats of your trinket,in exchange for three iridium bars.
Giving A Parrot Egg As A Gift
If you don’t want a parrot companion, you can give your Parrot Egg as agift to villagersinstead.

Should You Equip A Parrot Egg As A Trinket
Having a parrot companiongives dungeon exploration an RPG treatment, because of the gold coins that you can collect. The issue is that the possible level of your parrot isdetermined by your total earningsas a player:
At least750,000 gold
At least1,500,000 gold
At least2,250,000 gold
That being said, while you’re most in need of gold, at less than 750,000 gold in total earnings,your parrot is least likely to find gold coins. You also cannot re-roll your Parrot Egg to raise its levelif you haven’t met the minimum total earnings requirement.
This makes using a Parrot Egg as a trinket less useful, but you should definitely equip it if you’refarming enemies for item drops, or if you’reeliminating several monsters for quests.
If your concern is survival against enemies,you’re better off using the other trinkets, if you have any available.
