In anyBaldur’s Gate 3run, your first steps into the Underdark are going to be among your most memorable. Whether it bejumping down a spider pit, descending a well, or hijacking an elevator, each Underdark experience will be unique.
One key location in any Underdark adventure, however, is the Selûnite Outpost. Oftentimes, this will be the first location players encounter in the Underdark. However, regardless of whether you get blasted trying to get through the front gates or climb down the endless ladder, knowing what to look for in the Selûnite Outpost is key to making the most of the Underdark.

Where To Find The Selûnite Outpost
The Selûnite Outpost can be found on the southernmost end of the Underdark(around X: 153 Y: -234).The primary means of accessing the Selûnite Outpost isvia the ladderin thePriestess Quarters Entrance (X: 253 Y: -8)in theShattered Sanctum / Defiled Temple.
This route takes you directly inside the Selûnite Outpost. This may seem like an easy task, but if you enter from any other access point, you will find that thepuzzles and traps make entry more difficult. Then again, defeating or befriending a whole camp of goblins to get to Gut’s chambers isn’t exactly easy either.

There arefour other waysto access the Selûnite Outpost if you choose not to descend the ladder in Priestess Gut’s chambers, and have instead entered the Underdark via a different entrance.
The Front Gate
When exploring the Underdark, it is likely that you will stumble across thefront gate of the Selûnite Outpostif you did not first find the outpost through Gut’s chambers. However, once you find the front gate, it is not as simple as walking through it.
A dead minotaur, and a verbal warning from your Tav,reveal a trapthat will shoot radiant energyonce you get too close. This trap can quickly become deadly, but if you are still insistent on walking through the front gate, simplyenter Turn-Based mode, walk to the gate, and pick the lock.

Once you are right in front of the gate the trap will not shoot at you, so take as long as you need to pick the lock. This requires asuccessful Sleight of Hand check (DC 20), and the gates will open.
More than just the front gate, there aremany difficult locks to pickin the outpost. Consider using theGloves of ThieveryorGuidanceto boost your Sleight of Hand checks.

At just the right angle, there is also a way toMisty Stepthrough the gateif the lock is giving you too much trouble.
The moonstone trap can only be deactivated from the inside of the Selûnite Outpost, so be sure to disarm it before letting the rest of your party in.

The Rocky Crevice
The Rocky Crevice can be found to theeast of the front gate (X: 165, Y: -211), and requires a successful passive Perception Check to spot. Once spotted, anySmall creature can navigate through it.
If you do not have a Small character in your party, you’re able to useDisguise Selfto turn into a Small creature or aDruid’s Wildshapeto turn into a Small beast.

Once through the crevice, you will arrive at aBroken Wall in the kitchen areaof the outpost. This will also automatically unlock theUnderdark - Selûnite Outpost waypoint (X: 180, Y: -235).
Once the waypoint is unlocked, the rest of your party can teleport in via the waypoint.

The Window
The window on thewestern wall (X: 142 Y: -241)can be jumped through to access the interior of the outpost. The only way to get to the window, however, isif you approached from the west.
This means you would have encountered theArcane Towerand the drow statuesbefore finding the window. It’s a bit of a roundabout way to get in, but it still works!

Watch out for thetorchstalkbelow the window!
The Collapsed Tower
To the east of the front gate is a collapsed towernear a brazieron the ground. You canuse Misty Stepto get on top of the tower, and from there, climb down the stairs to get in. Hey, if magic works, it isn’t cheating!
Special Encounter: Raphael
Once you enter the Selûnite Outpost, there is a chance you’ll seeRaphael at the base of the stone stairs.Raphael is a cambion that can bemet in various placesin Act 1.
If youhave not encountered Raphael before, he will spawn in the outpost.

Exploring The Outpost
Luckily, getting inside the outpost is the hardest part. Once inside, you canpull the lever (X: 157, y: -223)to open the front gate.
Still, there is the moonstone trapto worry about. Disarming it is fairly easy, though, once you know what to do.

All you need is aranged attack that does not deal psychic or poison damage. Aim the attack at themoonstone from which the beams of light shootand destroy it. Once this is done, the braziers around the outpost will light up, and thetrap will be disarmed.
Before beginning your exploration of the temple, make sure you havesomeone who can useThieves' Toolswellor a party member or scrolls to cast Misty Step.
Shadowheart (and other Acolytes) will get Inspiration once the moonstone is destroyed.
Loot In The Outpost
The Selûnite Outpost isfull of camp supplies, weapons, and armorto be looted. Opening crates and burlap sacks will reveal a variety of miscellaneous items.
Particularly notable is thecrate behind the western iron doorson the second floor of the outpost, which has Thieves' Tools that may come in handy later if you forgot to bring your own.
Find The Nightsong
Throughout your adventures in Act 1, you may have found several hints about “The Nightsong” scattered throughout the world. Here, in the Selûnite Outpost, you may find yet another Find the Nightsong quest item.
At thebase of the statue of Selûne (X: 155, Y: -234)there is a book titled “In Search of the Nightsong” thatreveals that the Nightsong is in aSharran Templein theShadow-Cursed Lands.
This book will be marked as a Quest Item in your inventory.
The Helmet Of Smiting
On theeastern side of the outposton the upper floor there is a locked iron gate that leads to a room with a single chest inside. You can eitherlockpick the door(Sleight of Hand DC 20) oruse Misty Step to teleport inside.
There is no key for the gate or the chest in the Selûnite Outpost, so you have to find a way to break in.
Once inside, you canlockpick theOpulent Chestor break it to reveal theHelmet Of Smitinginside, a great item for Paladins to don.
The last hidden detail that ties together the whole Selûnite Outpost is a secret tragedy spelled out across aseries of books that can be foundscattered throughout the outpost.
The first two books, bothmarked as Faded Logbooks, are written by a Selûnite named Jarrus. They detail the expeditions of drow in the area andhint at the Spectator encounter that can be found southwestof the outpost. Keen readers can also spot a tragedy in his tale.
Jarrus' story is completed, however, by a different book, marked as a Tattered Journal. This journal can be found on thebody of a skeleton on the scaffoldingabove the main gate.
These three books, when read in context with one another, reveal the fate of the Selûnite Outpostand add more lore to a world that is already so complex. What exactly led to the tragic fall of the outpost, however, is for you to decipher.
