Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mixhas a ton of new content, expanding on the original version of this entry. New cutscenes, weapons, and bosses all blend together wonderfully to create a refreshing experience. The bosses especially go a long way in testing those who’ve already mastered the combat system and hunger for a real challenge.

In The World That Never Was, you now have to battle Roxas to progress. With Oathkeeper and Oblivion at his side, Roxas will not hesitate to tear you down with his powerful dual-wielding style. If button mashing is your go-to strategy, best leave Xemnas to Kairi and Riku.

Where To Find Roxas

You’ll find Roxas in the area right afterFragment Crossing in The World That Never Was.As soon as you enter the Memory’s Skyscraper area,a cutscene will begin, followed by your battle with Roxas.

You can also battle Data Roxas in The Garden of Assemblage at Hollow Bastion. This version of Roxas ismore aggressive and has 15 health bars;however, this version of the fight is entirely optionaland only worth completing if you want the Proof of Nonexistence.

How To Prepare For Roxas

For your weapon of choice, it is recommended toequip the Decisive Pumpkin Keyblade.Obtained after completing your second visit to Halloween Town, this Keyblade comeswith the Combo Boost ability, increasing the damage you deal for every hit in your comboand allowing you to land strong finishing attacks.

Stock up on a fewHi-Potions and Ethersfor this battle.Reflect and the Limit Form commands are great toolsfor this fight, but they drain your MP quickly, soequip the Item Boost abilityto improve the effect of these items.

Sora will fight Roxas alone, sodon’t bother bringing Mega-Potions and Mega-Ethers.

For abilities,Guard,Once More, and Second Chanceare critical for surviving hard-hitting combos. Meanwhile, the Quick Run andDodge Rollabilities are great for avoiding all of Roxas' unblockable attacks, and you should alsoconsider equipping Combo Boost and Finishing Plusto increase your damage output.

Assign Reflect, Hi-Potions, and Ethersto your shortcut menu;Reflect magic is critical for interrupting Roxasand creating an opening for combos, and it’s best to use Hi-Potions for this fight sinceyou’ll need to conserve MP for Reflect and any Limit Form commandsyou want to pull off.

How To Beat Roxas

Defeating Roxas in The World That Never Was is the only way to progress through the story. Luckily, this version of Roxas only has six health bars to deal with.

Phase One

Roxas immediatelybegins the battle with a charged-up slash thatcan be easily blocked with Guard or Reflect, allowing you to follow up with a combo afterward. After your combo ends, Roxas willjump into the air and slash toward you;using Reflect or Guard won’t make Roxas vulnerable again, soyou’ll have to run after avoiding this attack.

Roxas willstart zipping around the arena to close the distanceand unleash a combo. You canGuard twice to block the first couple of hits, but then Roxas will jump back and prepare one last strike; when Roxas jumps back, wait for a second, then Guard to stagger him again.

Phase Two

In the second phase, Roxas willstart incorporating beams of light into his attacksfrom the first phase, and continue using the charging slash he used at the beginning of the fight, but now beams of light surround him.If you stand too close to him, you’ll get caught in the light, but you can successfullyblock the light beams by repeatedly using Reflectuntil the light vanishes.

He will also use the same combo from before, butnow light beams will shoot in your direction;while this move might look scary, you’re able to avoid damage the same way you did in phase one.Guard twice, then do a delayed third Guardto protect yourself from that last hit.

Roxas' jumping slash will also send out more light beams; you can no longer Guard this attack, soyou must use Reflect to block the damage, and you can alsouse Dodge Roll and Quick Run to avoid the light.

The only new attack in this phase has Roxasflying around and hurling his keybladesat you. This attack is very difficult to Guard or dodge, soyour best bet is to use Reflect multiple timesuntil the attack ends.

Phase Three

Roxas can randomly dash towards you and initiate a minigame; all of your commands will be blank, but at the last second, one of the commands will change to “The End.“If you select the command in time, you’ll do some damage to Roxas and steal his Keyblades, but if you fail to hit the command, you’ll be left with only one HP left.

Try pausing and unpausing in quick successionwhen the minigame begins. Doing so will give you moretime to react when “The End” appears.

After stealing Roxas' Keyblades, he’llconstantly shoot light beams at you.If you manage to get some hits, the Keyblades will allow you to deal extra damage, but if the swarm of light is too much to handle, you’re better off dodging until Roxas takes back his weapons.

When Roxas takes back his Keyblades, you’llneed to hit the Reversal Reaction Commandto avoid getting attacked.

Roxas can alsofloat at the center of the battlefield and shoot spheres of lightthat hone in on you. While locked onto Roxas, avoid the light byusing Dodge Roll or Quick Run along the edge of the platform.

you’re able to alsowalk along the edge or use Aerial Dodgeif the light spheres get too close.Roxas is invincible while he’s shooting off light spheres, but he’ll eventually stop floating;hold off on pressing the attack until Roxas tries to use his own combo.
