InAnother Crab’s Treasure, Krill’s ultimate goal is to get maps to reach the treasure and trade it for the home shell. Every effort he puts in, such as beating bosses, is to get his shell back and lead a simple life. However, things are never smooth when you are a crab surrounded by capitalists such as Roland.
Roland is one of the toughest boss encounters in the game. You must face him before getting your hands on the treasure. The boss fight arena is set on a pinball machine with circular shells so Krill can roll over him.

Roland’s boss fight is in “The Mouth of the Drain.“You arrive here after Flotsam Vale, home of the gunk. Youreach him aftergetting a battery bydefeating Voltai, recharging the small boat, andarriving at Roland’s big boat.

Charged Cane
Whenever Rolandapproaches Krill from a distance, he uses his cane tostrike with a charged attack. The melee attackgreatly damages Krillregardless of his higher resistance stat or defensive stowaways equipped during the boss fight.
Four Hit Cane Combo
Rolandstarts the combo slowlyby striking the cane once. He then continues the combo withtwo successive thrustsfollowed by anotherslow cane strike.
Cane Swing
Rolandswings his cane two timesin a row. If Krill is hit once, gettinghit by the second swing becomes inevitable.
Cane Crush
If Krill continues to strike the boss with light attacks for longer,Roland will use his cane to crush him. This attack is athree-hit over-head strike combo. If Krill is hit once, Roland willkill him at the end of the combo. Krill goes intosquashed animation on any hit.
Hence, if the first hit strikes you, youcannot move and dodgethe rest of the strikes.
Charged Punch
Roland runs towards Krill with hisbody leaned backward,charging his three fistsat the back. The boss lets go of the charge animation when he is near Krill, and getting hit by this attackdrains Krill’s health significantly.
Alley-oop
Roland stretches the cane using his right hand andtries to catch Krillwith it. This attack is easy to spot as you get ared icon above Krill’s head, and Roland alsoshouts, “Alley-oop.“Roland will strike him with allthree left-hand fistsif the attack catches Krill.
Rolling Ball
WhenRoland’s health drops 40 to 50 percent, he startsrolling on the floor. The trajectory is always linear, so you canavoid it easily. However, look for ablue icon over Krill’s head. That indicates Roland is about tocome crashing downon Krill’s position.
Golf Swing
At low health,Roland grabs the cane in both handsand rushes at Krill tostrike him with a golf swing.
How To Beat Roland, Venture Crabitalist
Roland’sboss fightrequires a defensive playstyle.This boss fight is different from any previous bosses you may have encountered up to this point. Bosses such asHeikea Intimidation Crab,Pagurus the Ravenous, andDiseases Lichethroperequire relying on dodge timing and striking back, but this changes when you face Roland.
Youmust level up Krill to the recommended stats. This gives you a fighting chance to soak up the damage and deal more.
Roland’s attacks are heavy,drain significant healthper hit, andmove fasterthan most bosses in the game. You willhardly get time to deal damageif you rely on dodge and attack strategy. Thebest way to defeat Roland is to parry, ripostehis attacks, andbreak his stance.
Youmust unlock the Parry and Riposte skillsas they arenot learned by default.
All ofRoland’s attacks have very slow animations. You can easily predict each move, giving you a perfect opportunity toparry most of his attackswithout trouble. For example, thecharged cane attack takes nearly one secondbefore it strikes Krill. During this time, you cancontinue pressing the blockbutton, and as soon as Krill is about to get hit,release the button to parryit.
Block, parry, and ripostegreatly increase thechances of breaking the boss’s stance. Thestance meter (yellow)is below the boss’s health. Once themeter is full(visible by the flashing health bar),perform a riposteor strike Roland with anAdaptation move to break the stance, incapacitating him and making him vulnerable to taking more damage.
Royal Wave Level Three is by far the best Adaptationagainst Roland. It allows Krill to deal very high damage to the boss. We recommend youuse this attack when the boss has been incapacitatedafter breaking the stance. This will give Krill enough time to deplete a major portion of the boss’s health.
You only need towatch for the Alley-oopaggro attack as itcan not be parried. you may easilyparry most of the boss’s strikesexcept for thecane crush attack. Since this movesetinvolves a high risk of dyingif Roland executes a full combo on Krill, it isbest to dodge and run awayinstead of parrying it.
Thefour-hit cane comboattack is theeasiest to parry. The first strike is swift, the two successivethrusts after that have a half-second animation delay, and the last hit is swift.
Learning about the boss’s attack timings will allow you to be precise in parrying instead of guessing Roland’s next move.
Thecane swing hits hardand isdifficult to blockif hit by the first strike. With a slow animation, Roland swings the cane from the top of his head to his feet.Releasing the blockbutton just when theswing is about to hit, you will parry the attack, and if youpress the light attackbutton right after it,Krill will riposte.
Thecharged punch move has by far the slowest animationof all. Roland leans backward first and rushes towards Krill. He switches hisstance from leaning to standingand strikes Krill when he gets very close. When this happens, youlet go of the blockbutton toparry the attack.
The Rolling Ballis another move thatyou should avoid parrying. The continued hits willbreak your shelland then hit Krill. The best course of action here would be tododge either left or rightfrom where Roland is approaching you.
Do not parry when you see the blue icon over Krill’s headat the end of the Rolling Ball moveset. Roland comes crashing at you, and this attack cannot be parried.
If you have beenpracticing parry and riposteskills beforeRoland’s boss fight, you will not have a hard time beating it. If not, youmust unlock these two skills and practicea little before attempting to beat Roland. This boss may seem harmless due to its slow attack animations, buthe hits like a truck, and dying frequently will only add to the frustration.
