Chapter Three ofPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Doorhas Mario and friends making their way to the Glitz Pit for the next Crystal Star. Despite finding the star rather quickly, obtaining the treasure is no simple feat. Getting your hands on the next Crystal Star means dethroning the Glitz Pit champion, Rawk Hawk.
Climbing through the ranks of the Glitz Pit will have you facing off against many powerful opponents from all over the globe. To make matters worse, Grubba will set specific fight conditions you need to meet in every battle. It’s a long way to the top, but glitz and glory are never out of reach.

How To Climb The Glitz Pit Ranks
To rise through the ranks and face the Glitz Pit champion, you’ll need toparticipate in ranked matches.In these battles, you need todefeat your opponent and complete the fight conditionsto reach the next rank.
If you fail to meet fight conditions in a match,you will not rank up.The set fight conditions will alsochange when you retry any battle where you failto meet the conditions. Below is alist of all fight conditions from Grubba.

Appeal to the crowd at least once
Appeal to the crowd at least three times

Win in five turns or less
Win before taking 20 points of damage
Use a partner move at least once
Use a partner skill at least two times
Use a special move at least once
Don’t swap partners
Don’t use special moves
Don’t use jumping attacks
Don’t use hammer attacks
Don’t damage your opponent in the first three turns
Take damage at least three times
Only let your partner damage your opponent
All Minor League Battles
After a little conversation with Grubba, you’ll be entered into the Glitz Pit. You’ll begin in the minor-league locker room andreach the major-league after reaching rank ten.
Below is alist of every enemy in the minor-leagueand the strategy for defeating them.
The Goomba Bros.
5x Goombas
These enemies can easily bedefeated with one Power Shell from Koops.You can also use an item that attacks multiple enemies,like the Fire Flower or Earth Quake.
2x KP Koopas
1x KP Paratroopa
Use Multibounce to knock over every KP Koopa, rendering them unable to attack. If any Koopas are left standing,use Goombella to knock them over.When all Koopas are down,use Koops’s Power Shell or Quake Hammerto hit every enemy at once.
The Pokey Triplets
3x Pokeys
The Pokeys are sharp, soGoombella and Flurrie can’t be used for this battle.Instead,use Koops’s Power Shell to hit all Pokeys at onceand remove pieces of their body. If a Pokey has enough body parts, itwill fling a segment of its body at you.
The Dead Bones
3x Dull Bones
Dull Bones have only one HP, so you can easilytake them all out with Multibounce.Due to their high defense, Goombella will only be able to damage Dull Bonesif she’s been upgraded.If Goombella hasn’t been upgraded,stick to Koops or Flurrie.
2x Spinies
1x Lakitu
The two Spineshave incredibly high defenseand can’t be damaged by most attacks. However, the Spinies can bedamaged by Earth Tremor and Piercing Blow.
2x Bandits
2x Big Bandits
If you fail to guard against their attacks, a Bandithas a chance of stealing coins,and Big Banditscan steal an item.Once a Bandit has something valuable,they’ll flee the battlefield on their next turn.If you manage to defeat a Bandit with an item,they’ll drop the item, and it’ll be returned to your inventory.
1x Dark Puff
1x Pider
you’re able to’t jump onthe Pale Piranha or the Dark Puffonce it begins charging electricity.Have Koops at your side to deal with these two enemies, then use Mario to finish off the Pider.Power Bounce can easily eliminate the Pider in one goif you hit the Action Commands.
The Punk Rocks
3x Hyper Bald Cleft
Hyper Bald Clefts canuse their turn to improve their strength by six, allowing them to deal eight points of damage.
Quake Hammer, Earth Tremor ability, and Earth Quake itemare great ways to get around a Hyper Bald Cleft’s high defense. If Flurrie’s upgraded, herLip Lock ability can pierce the defense of these enemies.
The Bob-omb Squad
4x Bob-ombs
After dealing damage to a Bob-omb their fuse will light, and they’ll attack you with an explosion on their next turn.The Clock Out ability can be used to freeze Bob-Ombsin place, preventing their fuse from lighting even if you attack them.
Take this time tohit them all with Quake Hammer, then finish them off with a Power Shell from Koops.
The Iron Adonis Twins
2x Iron Clefts
During your first match against the Adonis Twins,it is impossible to win.you may either flee the fight or wait for the Iron Clefts to finish you off. The only way to win this fight is with Yoshi.
Once Yoshi is in your party,use his Gulp abilityto damage the Iron Clefts. The duo will be defeatedafter using Gulp twice.
After defeating the Bob-omb Squadand ranking up, you’ll be able toface off against the Wings of Night team.you may challenge the Wings of Night in an Exhibition Match, butthis is entirely optional.
All Major League Battles
Once you’ve beaten The Iron Adonis Twins, you’ll be moved into the major-league locker room. The battle system remains the same, but nowmatches will be much more difficult.

The Tiny Spinies
2x Red Spike Top
The high defense of the Red Spike Topcan be easily bypassed with Yoshi’s Gulp ability.Youcan also opt for Flurrie’s Lip Lockor Piercing Blow.
The Poker Faces
2x Bristle
Bristle’s have high defense andattack anyone that approaches them, making it impossible to hit the Bristles with direct attacks.
The Earth Tremor ability, Quake Hammer, and Earth Quake itemsare your best bet for taking out these enemies.You can also eliminate the Bristles with Superguardsif you can nail the timing.
2x Shady Koopa
1x Shady Paratroopa
When flipped onto their backs,Shady Koopas can launch a strong attack that will hit you and your partner.While standing, Shady Koopas will only deal three points of damage.
Use a combination of Power Bounce and Yoshi’s Ground Poundto knock over a Shady Koopa and defeat them quickly.
Immediately, after defeating The Shellshockers,The Iron Adonis Twins will rush the stageand attack. You can defeat them with the same strategy from the previous fights.Two Gulps with Yoshi will be enoughto knock out the Iron Clefts.
1x Fuzzy
1x Green Fuzzy
1x Flower Fuzzy
The Green Fuzzy cancreate clones of itself after taking HP, so start by defeating that one first.
The Flower Fuzzysaps away Flower Points instead of health andfires off an electric wave once it has some FPto use.Power Bounce, Goombella’s Multibonk, and Yoshi’s Ground Poundare great for taking out a single strong Fuzzy.
1x White Magikoopa
1x Green Magikoopa
TheRed Magikoopacanbuff its allies' attack and defense,the White Magikoopa can heal its allies, and theGreen Magikoopacanelectrify allies and make them invisible.Take out the White Magikoopa first, then go for the Red Magikoopa.
When one Magikoopa is left, it willcreate four clones of itself.Use amulti-target attack like Quake Hammer, Earth Tremor, or Power Shellto hit every Magikoopa and reveal the real one.
Bowser
1x Bowser
After defeating The Magikoopa Masters,Bowser will jump onto the stageand attack.This battle has no effect on your rankin the Glitz Pit, so losing has no consequences. you may even run away from this battle.
Bowser candisable one of your commands if you fail to guard his ground pound attack.He also has a poisonous bite attack, but youcan cure the poison with Sweet Treatif you don’t have any Tasty Tonics.
Craw-Daddy
1x Dark Craw
The Dark Craw’s spear rendersjumping attacks ineffective, so Koops is the best partner for this fight.Koops’s Shell Shield can help guardagainst the Dark Craw’s hard-hitting attacks. You can alsopurchase a Repel Cape from the Glitzville shopto raise your evasion.
TheClock Out ability can completely immobilize the Dark Craw, allowing you to wail on him for a few turns before he can strike back.
Hamma, Bamma, and Flare
1x Fire Bro
1x Boomerang Bro
The Hammer Bro throws hammers, Fire Bro spits fire, and the Boomerang Brothrows a boomerang that can hit you and your partner.The Hammer Bro and Fire Brocan shoot off multiple projectiles on their turnto whittle down your health.Have Yoshi use Gulp then use a multi-target attacklike Quake Hammer to finish off the Hammer Bro and Fire Bro.
The Fire Bro’s flamescan set you and your partner on fire, dealing damage over time. You canget rid of fire with Sweet Treat.
Chomp Country
2x Red Chomps
The Red Chomps have fairly high defense, making themperfect targets for Yoshi’s Gulp ability.Two Gulps is all it takes to defeat the Red Chomps and move on.
If you choose toeat the cake before this match,your partners won’t join you for the battle.The Red Chomps areimmune to fire damage.
The Koopinator
1x Dark Koopatrol
The Dark Koopatrol can charge to raise its attack power and evenuse attacks that target you and your partner.Luckily, this enemy can beknocked onto their back with Quake Hammeror a POW Block. Like most Koopa enemies,the Koopinator is helpless when knocked over.
Once you knock over the Koopatrol,hit them with Power Smash or Power Bounceto deal a ton of damage.Goombella’s Multibonk and Yoshi’s Ground Poundcan deal a ton of damage to the Koopinator when he’s knocked down.
Rawk Hawk
1x Rawk Hawk
Rawk Hawk can use a variety of attacks that target you and your partner. Since he has zero defense, jumping attacks likePower Bounce and Goombella’s Multibonk are greatfor tearing through his health. Rawk Hawk is alsosusceptible to many status effectslike Shrink, Soft, and Dizzy.
When Rawk Hawk jumps up to the ceiling, you canknock him down with the Quake Hammeror Earth Quake item.
Your match privileges will be temporarily suspendedafter beating the Poker Faces, Craw-Daddy, and the Koopinator.You’ll be able to queue up for another ranked matchonce you complete your tasks from the Anonymous emails.
