Discarding Energy as a method of scaling damage is a common mechanic in thePokemon TCG, seen in decks such as Chien-Pao ex and Gholdengo ex. However, one of the major components that these decks lack is the ability to discard any type of basic Energy attached to your Pokemon.

In the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deck, you’ll have the ability to scale Raging Bolt ex’s damage based on all the basic Energy you have in play. This allows you to utilize a variety of Energy acceleration tactics to deal powerful attacks. Below, discover how to build the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deck.

Raging Bolt Ogerpon Deck Best Cards

There are several different ways to approach the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deck. However, some cards are essential to gameplay. Below, discover some of the best cards used in the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deck and how they are used.

Teal Mask Ogerpon Ex

Teal Mask Ogerpon ex has a unique Ability that allows it to be essential in the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deck. Teal Dance allows you toattach a single basic Grass Energyfrom your hand to Teal Mask Ogerpon ex once per turn.

Each Ogerpon ex in play with this Ability can use it every turn so long as you have the Energy to attach, allowing you to attach up to three different Energies each turn potentially.

While this serves as a highly useful methods of adding Energy into play without wasting turns to set up, Teal Dance goes beyond this purpose by also serving as abeneficial draw engine. Every time you attach an Energy using this Ability, you may alsodraw a card from your deck. This helps to keep your hand stocked and give you more resources at your disposal each turn.

Bravery Charm

Bravery Charm is theonly Tool playedin this deck. Many of the Pokemon played in the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deck sport relatively high HPs. This is especially true for the ex Pokemon like Ogerpon ex and Raging Bolt ex. However,Bravery Charm can be the difference between a Knock Out and survivinganother turn for this deck.

All of the Pokemon played in the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deck areBasic, even if some are a Rule Box Pokemon. As a result, all of the Pokemon included can benefit from the use of Bravery Charm. When this card is attached, they will receive an additional 50 HP.

Although 50 HP may not seem like much, it is enough toraise Raging Bolt ex’s base HP to 290, allowing it to sustain the damage dealt by most of the common attackers in the meta. Against a deck likeCharizard ex, Bravery Charm can help slow down how quickly Charizard ex is able to scale.

Because Bravery Charm adds 50 HP, it is equivalent to Charizard ex needing to fall behind by another two Prize cards, in addition to those needed for Burning Darkness to Knock Out Raging Bolt ex at its base HP.

Pokemon TCG Sandy Shocks Ex Card

Bravery Charm can also be useful when attached to other potential attackers in this deck, such asOgerpon ex. Since this deck only playsone Sandy Shocks ex, attaching the Bravery Charm to that card may also help keep this usefulEnergy acceleratorin play for longer.

Raging Bolt Ogerpon Deck Strategy

In many decks that play Raging Bolt ex, the strategy is to plan carefully and tread slowly, as it can take time to get the Energy needed to deal damage with Raging Bolt ex. However, such is not the case with the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deck.

For most games, you’ll want to go first. This is because going first gives you the best chance to attach Energy to your Pokemon. Raging Bolt ex’s Bellowing Thunder attack also requires at least two Energies to attack with, so going first will allow you the best chance to attack on your second turn.

Rebel Clash’s Boss’s Orders Full Art from the Pokemon TCG.

The main goal of the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deck is tohave as much Energy in play as possible. This allows you to tailor your gameplay to your opponent’s deck while maintaining enough fuel to deal powerful attacks with Raging Bolt ex.

Having some Energy in the discard pile is good as well, as this lets you attach using Professor Sada’s Vitality. Discarded Energy can be achieved through Radiant Greninja and Earthern Vessel.

Toedscruel from the Paradox Rift expansion of Pokemon TCG

Whenever possible, you’ll want touse Ogerpon’s Ability to attach a Grass Energy. Not only does this allow you to attach multiple Energy cards per turn to different Pokemon, but it also functions as one of the maindraw enginesin this deck.

This deck playsthree potential gustingoptions in the form oftwo Boss’s Ordersand a singlePrime Catcher. It can be essential to use these to target Pokemon you can easily Knock Out, especially if there are double-Prize Pokemon with low HP available like Chi-Yu ex.

If you find yourself falling behind, Sandy Shocks ex can be an additional measure for attaching Energies. However, this Pokemon’s Ability requires acertain Prize Card threshold to be met, which may not be achieved in every game. It also requires Energy in the discard pile, like Professor Sada’s Vitality.

In ideal games, if you go second, you’ll be able to begin dealing powerful attacks starting on your second turn (the third turn in the match overall). This is especially true when you are able to utilize Squawkabilly ex’s Squak and Seize Ability.

Although you will then have to endure Squakabilly remaining on the Bench throughout the rest of your game, a two-Prize liability, using this Ability can havegame-altering results. This is because if you perform a variety of actions with your initial hand, such as adding Pokemon to the Bench, searching your deck, or attaching Energies, you’ll be able todiscard the remnants of your initial handwith few repercussions.

Raging Bolt Ogerpon Deck Common Threats

Because the Raging Bolt Ogerpon deckrelies on being able to recycle Energyback into the deck or hand after using Raging Bolt ex’s Bellowing Thunder, decks that have the capability to prevent this mechanic pose the biggest threat.

One example of this would be any deck that utilizesSlime Mold Colony Toedscruelfrom Paradox Rift.

This Toedscruel Abilityprevents cards from being taken out of the discard pileand put back into the hand. As a result, while a card likeSuper Rod may still workto restock your deck with vital cards, you would beunable to use Energy Retrieval.

Slime Mold Colony can also bedangerous when you use Pokestop. Pokestop says to first discard the top three cards of your deck. Then, any Item cards are taken from the discard pile and placed back into your hand.

When understanding different card interactions, it is important to pay close to attention to what a card says. The specific order of each action taken can have surprising interactions in some circumstances.

Because the cards are in the discard pile first technically,Toedscruel’s Ability stops youfrom being able to retrieve those cards from the discard pile, even if they are Items.
