Every road inBaldur’s Gate 3leads to a new encounter, even the roads you least expect. The Last Light Inn may be the safest haven in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, but that doesn’t mean it’s peaceful. While exploring the cellar of the Last Light Inn, you may find yourself ambushed by the meenlocks; distorted, crustacean-like creatures from the Feywild.

The meenlocks aren’t going to be the most dangerous foe you face in these dark lands, but they can certainly prove challenging if you don’t know how to handle them. So light a torch, muster your courage, and prepare to take down these crabby abominations.

Where To Find The Meenlocks

The meenlocks can be found whileexploring thecellar of the Last Light Innin the Shadow-Cursed Lands. They are in theroom with the Selûnite shrine; four are on the stage with the shrine, while three are on the northwestern cliffs.

There are two ways to access the room with the meenlocks. The first is tomove the crates against the left wall(X: 28 Y: -718),cut down the cobwebs, anduse the smokepowder barrelto explode the cracked wall so thatyou can come closer to the meenlocks on the cliffs.

The other way to approach the meenlocks is toenter the prison cell (X: 26 Y: -758), move the crates, and destroy the cracked wall.you’re able to follow the path forward, lockpick the metal door, continue forward, andarrive at a wooden door (X: 44 Y: -719);this means you will comecloser to the meenlocks on the stage.

How To Prepare For The Meenlocks

Preparing for the meenlocks will help ensure that combat goes as smoothly as possible, and even the game tries to help you out. Upon starting combat with the meenlocks, there will be apassive Arcana check to reveal meenlocks don’t like light -you can use this to your advantage.

CastingDaylight,Dancing Lights,Light (Spell), or even lighting a torch willtrigger the meenlock’s Light Sensitivity feature, meaning they have Disadvantage on attacks and Perception Checks. It alsolimits the range of their Shadowy Teleport, making it harder for them to maneuver.

To save your spell slots and help with Concentration, we recommend using Hearthlight Bombs; craftable grenades that emit bright light in a 9m radius.

Another way to prepare is tomake sure you get your Surprise roundby attacking the meenlocks before they see you.Use the Hide mechanicto figure out the meenlocks' lines of sight andlaunch a ranged attack or spellbefore they see you.

a 4m radius

Claws (action)

-3d4+3 Slashing; chance to Paralyze for two rounds

Shadowy Teleport (bonus action)

-Teleport to a dark location within 16m

The meenlock’s strategy revolves aroundgetting near as many people as possible to Frighten them, then they prioritizeParalyzing creatures with their claws.

In Tactician and Honour Mode, the meenlock’s HP increases to 63, their AC increases to 17, and their Dexterity and Constitution statistics increase to 18.

Because of this, the best counter-strategy is tokeep your distanceandhave one of your fighters ready to play support.A fighter playing support? Sounds crazy, but it is very viable when you consider thatArrow of Salvingare available to youby this portion of the game.

Arrows of Salving are amazing for the meenlock fight, mostly becauseif you are Frightened you will be unable to move. This makes spells like Lesser Restoration nearly obsolete; but you can shoot an arrow from nearly anywhere, even if you can’t move.

Teleportation spells, such asMisty SteporDimension Door, still work even if you are Immobilized by fear. Keep this in mind in case you need to get away.

Keep a few Arrows of Salving on your party toshoot at Paralyzed party members, andkeep your distance from the meenlocksso they have to waste their actions Dashing to you. Keep your party unparalyzed as best you can, keep swinging at the meenlocks, and victory will be yours.

Rewards

Unfortunately, the meenlocks are a bit stingy when it comes to rewards. They have nothing lootable on their corpses and only reward 50 XP each.

In higher difficulty modes, the meenlocks to have a chance to have alchemical materials and/or items on their bodies.

However, the room where they’re in has a few interesting items; the crates scattered about have silver plates and chalices that are worth a decent amount of money. There is also aLast Light Side Entrance Keyon the table, along with aletter that helps with the “Investigate the Selûnite Resistance” quest.

So grab what you’re able to and press onward, with only the lingering fear of the monstrosities in your mind.
