Intro The Classified Intel missions inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthallow you to challenge some of the most powerful enemies within each region. These enemies often employ powerful attacks and quick movements to easily tear through an unprepared party. However, the Gongaga Region’s classified Fiend takes a different approach to wear down its prey.
The Great Malboro relies on devastating status effects rather than flashy abilities. Stepping into this fight unprepared will leave you a sleeping, poisoned, silenced, frozen toad in a matter of seconds. With the right accessories, Materia, and a breath mint, you’ll be more than capable of dealing with this overgrown flytrap.
Where To Find The Great Malboro
To unlock the Classified Intel mission, you need tocomplete every Expedition Intel mission in the Gongaga Regionfirst. After completing every Expedition Intel mission,Chadley will notify you of the Classified Intel mission’s location.
The Classified Intel mission islocated in the southeast corner of Gongaga, in the middle of a field surrounded by rock walls. Once here,hold down Triangle to summon the Fiendand begin the fight.

Malboros are known for their ability toinflict multiple status ailments with the Bad Breath ability.Each time the Great Malboro uses Bad Breath,the ability’s potency will increase, allowing it to inflict additional ailments, and thePutrid Breath and Rancid Breath abilitiescan also inflict multiple ailments.
The purple fog on the battlefieldindicates areas affected by a Breath ability.Avoid these areas tododge status ailments.
Luckily, The Great Malboro’smouth is exposed whenever using one of these Breath abilities,so you should use a party member withranged attacks or use Ice magic to attackthe mouth from a safe distance.Destroying the mouth will cancel the abilityand pressure the beast, allowing you to go in and build the stagger gauge.
To combat the status ailments, equipWarding Materia to your armor slotand pair it with any of its compatible Materia. Warding Materiareduces the duration of negative status effects,and at its maximum level, Warding Materia willcompletely negate a status effect.
Accessories can alsogrant full immunity to status effects,and some accessories like theSafety Bit and Protective Bootseven grant immunity to several status effects at once. Consider equipping theWhite Cape or Headband accessory to become completely immune to Toad and Sleep, as you’re extremely vulnerable in these states.
