There are plenty of things to keep tabs on as you press forward inMonster Hunter Stories, but there’s a peculiar type of enemy you’ll find out in the world who offers a different kind of reward from the rest. Good thing, too, since there are a few reasons you’ll need them throughout the game.
But Pawprint Stamps, the item they drop, are highly sought after and infamously pretty tough to come by in Monster Hunter Stories. Thankfully, we’ve pinned down a few ways you’ll reliably find Pawprint Stamps in Monster Hunter Stories to save you the frustration of searching.

Where To Find Pawprint Stamps
If you’re looking to collect a few Pawprint Stamps in the port of Monster Hunter Stories, you’re in luck - they seem to be a bit easier to come by this time around than they were in the original Nintendo 3DS version of the game.
If you don’t find one organically beforehand, the first time you’ll hear about Pawprint Stamps is when speaking to theKind Grandpawho’s standing justoutside your house in Gildegaran. Should you speak to him when he has theblue ! bubbleover his head, he’llgive you the SubquestcalledSecret to Well-Being.

The man doesn’t seem to appear until you’ve accepted theTotally Rad ‘Shroom Huntquest from Reverto and have begun to embark on toward the Babda Rainforest.
Once you’ve activated the quest, you’ll eventually need to hand over a single Pawprint Stamp, but where should you go to get them? You may not actually have to travel too far outside of Gildegaran after meeting the Kind Grandpa, anyway, as it’s possible you’ve already unlocked a few Pawprint Stamps byfilling out your Monsterpedia.

The most reliable way to find Pawprint Stamps in Monster Hunter Stories, though, is bywinning a battle against a Barrel Felyneyou’ll encounter in the wild. You’ve seen plenty of the Felynes around the overworld, but these Monsties are lurking aboutpeeking from within a wooden barrel. Their Monsterpedia entry reads, “Trapped in barrels and unable to free themselves, these Felynes await rescue.”
How To Find And Defeat Barrel Felynes
As a show of thanks, not only will the Barrel Felynes give you some Aged Felvine (that sells for a high price) and other helpful resource rewards, but you’ll faithfullygetone Pawprint Stamp for freeing them from their barrels.
Barrel Felynes seem more prevalent in the 2024 remake of Monster Hunter Stories than in the original 3DS game. While players used to struggle to find them, we had good luck making them spawnnearthe Pink Rathianin Perennial Pass, along the pathways inWintertide Tunnel, and to the right of the entrance to Albarax in theTrese Desert. If none have spawned around the map, tryusing the Catavanto fast-travel and reset the monsters in these areas.

Checking your map for monsters is easier whenusing a Monstie that has theMonster Search ability, as it marks the locations of monsters nearby on your map.
Unfortunately,BarrelFelynes don’t take a lot of damagedue to a reliable and remarkablehigh defense stat, and not only that, they’re prone tofleeing from battle. You alsocan’t throw Paintballs at themto try to send them fleeing back to a nest to try to catch them there where they’re much less prone to running. They’ll occasionally useWait-‘n-Seefor the first few turns in battle, which is your chance to strike! To counterits high defense, we found it best touse an attack that lands multiple times.
Use Multi-Hit Attacks To Boost Your Chances To Slay The Barrel Felyne
Yian Kut-Kuis a good choice for a Monstiewhen searching for and battling Barrel Felynes. Not only can it use Monster Search as one of its abilities, but yourKinship Skillwith this particular Monstie isFireball Expulsion, a fire elemental attack that lands a few times per use to deal multiple hits of damage in one turn. If you’ve got aBulldrome, switching to it in battle and usingPower Comboto deal multiple hits of Power damage that stacks in intensity as you use it on consecutive turns.
Regardless, the goal when fighting Barrel Felynes in Monster Hunter Stories is tobe quick and deal as much damage as fast as possiblebefore it flees. Once you’ve got one in battle, hit hard and fast to take it down, and you’ll have a pile of Pawprint Stamps in no time.
