Depending on how you’re progressing throughAnimal Welldecides exactly when you’ll come across one of its creepier puzzles, but rest assured, the Ostrich is waiting for you in the depths no matter when you stumble on it. And when that thing sees your little blob, it starts pecking at you literally on sight.
Thankfully, the room with the Ostrich puzzle in Animal Well has several openings in the floor where you may find the switches to open the door on the far side of the room! It’s just unfortunate that the Ostrich can (and will) follow you down there…

Where Is The Ostrich?
The Ostrich puzzle location is denoted on the map above by theswirl stampshown at the crosshair intersection.
Sincethere’s no “correct” order in which to proceedthrough Animal Well, you’ll encounter the Ostrich as soon as you’reon your way to collecting the Yoyo upgrade. The area you’ll need isto the right of the main four flamesfrom where you first emerged from the starting area.
Starting from the Ostrich and Mouse statuein this area of Animal Well, climbdown the ladderbeneath the statue, andbe careful of the mouse in the darkin this room. Not only can ittackle youto inflict damage, but it can alsouse its head as a ranged weapon, so be careful!
There arethree yellow switchesin this room, so be mindful of the mouse and maneuver around the room tohit all three. Doing so unlocks apath to the leftof the ladder, so head into this newly-unlocked door. You’ll find yourself in a fairly empty room with another blocked path, butno visible buttonto hit.
You may notice, though, that there’s asection of the floor in the middle of the roomwhere you can see plants, but not actually the bottom of the floor - suspicious.
To check it out,jump vertically and align your blob so it lands on the grass, and you’ll find yourself in a secret tunnel below the ground with the button required to open the door.
you may’t just fall into this hole - you’ll walk along it like normal if you try. You need to angle your jump just so to get down here, but it’s a tutorial for what’s ahead, so it’s good to get the practice.
Once the path to the left is unblocked, skip jumping up the three platforms above you andgo to the leftusing the newly unlocked path, and it’s here that you’ll find the Ostrich in Animal Well.
Ostrich Puzzle Solution
If you don’t know it’s up ahead, the Ostrich can be a bit of a jumpscare in Animal Well! As soon as you enter the room to the left, it advances on you,following you around the room to peck at you. Not only that, butthe Ostrich is much faster than you.
And as soon as that terror settles down, you’ll notice that the Ostrich is blockinga gate with four unlit lights. You know these kinds of gates by now, but where are the switches for them?Underground. This room has several of the same kind offalse bottoms on the floorwith grass in them, much like the path you used to unlock the gate leading to the Ostrich.
The only tricky thing with these particular tunnels is,the Ostrich can stick its head down into the tunnels to keep chasing you underground. And what’s scarier than that is that, if you don’t see the Ostrich’s head underground, youmight not know where it is above ground, either, making popping back out of the tunnel particularly tricky.
Speed is of the essencein the Ostrich puzzle, since this thing isquick. If it corners you underground, you’ll need towait for it to pull its head backbefore leaving the spot where it couldn’t reach you. You’ll likely get bit a few times, but practice makes perfect - keep trying!
There arefive floor openingsin total in the Ostrich puzzle in Animal Well that lead you tofour yellow buttonsin the underground tunnels, so just like you did before,jump up and into the openings in the floorto land in anetwork of tunnels beneath the ground. Each tunnel has at least one button, but multiple ways to get in and out.
There’s no prize for finishing the Ostrich puzzlein Animal Well except formore puzzles afterthat leads you to your next upgrade - the Yoyo.
