Like most other gacha-based RPGs,Wuthering Waveshas an elemental system. It’s not only used as an aspect of character and enemy design, but it determines the damage type they’ll be doing and can even play a part in their story or where they’re from. Most important of all, the element of a character or enemy is going to affect your damage numbers against them.
If you’re sending your Fusion Resonators out against Fusion bosses, you’re going to have a much harder – and longer – fight on your hands because your damage is lowered. If you want to do the most damage and speed up fights, you’ll want to take the Elements into account.

Elements, Explained
Elements, also called Attributes at times, tell you whattype of damage a Resonator or enemy is going to be dealing, and also whattype of damage that an enemy is going to resistor might evenbe immune to. For example, thePrism type of enemy, such as Havoc Prisms or Glacio Prisms, are totallyimmune to their Element’s damage, whileOverlord and Calamity class enemieslike theInferno RiderorMourning Aixhavehigh resistance to their Element’s damage.
SomeTacet Field challenges, Tower of Adversity, and other special zones alsoinclude increased or lowered Elemental resistance, depending on what enemies there are.

While itwon’t reduce your DPS too muchoverallif you don’t use an enemy’s elemental opposite, havingthat opposite elementwhen facing an enemy willincrease the damage you’ll do to them slightly, such as if you send out a Fusion-based Resonator against a Glacio element enemy.
You alsodon’t want to use your Glacio Resonators against any Glacioenemies, as their increased resistance to the element will mean you’llbe doing less damagethan if you used a neutral or opposite element. In zones likeTacet Field challenges, this goes a step further, as they’lloften reward you for using a specific Elementwith bonus effects such asincreased damage with certain attack typesor additional elemental effects, andenemies in the fieldshave even higher elemental resistancethan normal.

In Tacet Fields, even characters not of the bonus element canstill get some effects from the field-specific modifiersif they use the right attack type.
