Summary
Earlier this month, Nintendo announced a surprise trial for the firstHollow Knight, and fans were sure it meant thatSilksong news was finally coming after two long, silent years. Then a 40-minute Direct was announced, and huge reveals were rolled out back-to-back froma new Mario & Luigitoa Zelda-focused ZeldatoMetroid Prime 4!But no Silksong. Fans are taking it as well as you’d expect.
“I’m gonna be real, the longer [developer] Team Cherry goes on without saying anything, the less excited I feel for Silksong,“one fan tweeted. “I’m not asking for them to rush the game out. I’m not asking for them to post every week. Just give us at least some communication that doesn’t make it look like you use passenger pigeons in 2024.”

Metroid Prime 4 was in a similar position after having been announced seven years ago during E3. Nintendo kept eerily quiet, so fans were met with crushing disappointment at every single showcase until it became a joke.
And then, out of nowhere, we finally got a date in the new gameplay trailer. Silksong fans are currently in the ‘became a joke’ part of the cycle after having waited five years since the game was announced.
“Hollow Knight: Silksong isn’t a real game,“GameSpot managing editor Tamoor Hussain wrote. “We collectively hallucinated it.”
Silksong Was Supposed To Come Out A Year Ago
Microsoft promised that everything shown off during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2022 would launch within the next 12 months, and at that same showcase, Team Cherry shared a new Silksong trailer. But June 2023 rolled around and Silksong was nowhere to be found.A year later, it’s still a ghost.
But hey, Gamescom is right around the corner. It will definitely, absolutely, assuredly be there, right?
