Summary

Nintendo of Europe revealed the surpriseon social media on Thursday morning, confirming that if you have NSO, you can now play Hollow Knight for free. Yes, that does mean this is a Europe-only opportunity for now. Keep watching the Nintendo of America accounts and keep an eye on your eShop if you’re in the US though as there’s every chance this free trial finds its way to the States sooner rather than later.

Hollow Knight

WHERE TO PLAY

A Metroidvania adventure, Hollow Knight is a challenging 2D platformer that sees you play as the Knight as he wanders the grey environments of the Hallownest. You must battle the infected insects who reside there and discover a way to reverse the decay that pervades everything.

The timing of the Hollow Knight trial hitting Switch is interesting. As soon as the tweet was posted,Hollow Knight fans assumed a Silksong announcement is coming. It makes sense, but as those of us who have been waiting half a decade for the Hollow Knight sequel know all too well, it’s best not to expect Silksong news at any upcoming showcases. That said, since Nintendo has already confirmed a Direct is coming this month, some are now convinced Silksong will be a part of it.

If the Hollow Knight trial is teasing a Silksong announcement, you’d think that means the Direct will be here before the trial ends, so between now and Wednesday. There’s also a chance Silksong makes an appearance during the various showcases taking place this weekend. Probably not duringSummer Game Fest, but potentially duringXbox’s showcase on Sunday. Since I’ve let the speculation go to my head, my guess is the Hollow Knight trial ends on Wednesday and then Nintendo shadow-drops Silksong during a Direct the following day.
