Summary
The wait forHollow Knight: Silksonghas been a long one, but there was a time when we had more hope. Back in a 2022 Xbox Games Showcase, we got a new trailer and were told that everything shown off in the livestreamwould launch within the next 12 months. This wasn’t a specific release date, sure, but it seemed like a pretty solid launch window.
But of course, June 2023 came around and there was nothing. We had beentold a month prior that this would be the case, with Silksong being hit with a delay, but the day came to symbolise the hope that Hollow Knight fans have clung to throughout Silksong’s development, going into every gaming showcase.
Now, as highlighted by Twitter user @fyridk, yet another year has passed since Silksong’s supposed release date. So, according toXbox’s original announcement, we should have had the game for a full year already - and there’s still no release date in sight.
Hollow Knight Fans Mark The First Anniversary Of Silksong’s Original Release Window
Of course, to be exact, we are two days off the actual anniversary. However, as @fyridk highlights in the replies, Xbox’s 2024 showcase has come and gone, and there was no mention of Silksong at all.
With that said, it isn’t all doom and gloom.Hollow Knight just got a free trial on Nintendo Switch, which has fans hoping we’ll get a Silksong update at the next Nintendo Direct. It also got an Xbox store page, interestingly enough, on April Fool’s Day. But don’t worry, it wasn’t a cruel prank - the page is still there now.
We know that there’s going to be a Nintendo Direct this month, so who knows? Maybe it will immediately shadowdrop and Xbox’s estimates would have only been off by a year and a couple of weeks. Or… we get nothing and keep waiting.
2024 markedthe fifth anniversary of Silksong’s reveal. So far, all we’ve gotten isconfirmation from the devs that the game is still in development. It remains to be seen if we get much more than that.
