Summary

Despite the significant hiccup that wasPlayStation demanding PC players link a PSN account-that decision has now been reversedby the way, although the damage may have already been done -Helldivers 2has been a huge success. At last count, the sequel had sold eight million copies, and that was more than a month ago. What many of you fighting for democracy may not have done is boned up on your Helldivers history and played the original game, something you can do right now onPlayStationfor a lot less than usual.

A part of PlayStation’s May Savings sale- which ends on May 9 - Helldivers' Super-Earth Ultimate Edition is currently $15.99, down from its usual $39.99. On top of the base game, this special edition gets you 11 DLC packs, three expansions, and a dynamic theme for yourPS4. Not of use to you onPS5since dynamic themes still haven’t made the leap to PlayStation’s current generation for some reason, but the game and everything else it comes with outside of the dynamic theme is still compatible and available for less on PS5.

If you’re a Helldivers 2 fan and you want to experience the series' roots while the OG game is available for less, you may want to watch its launch trailer above first. You’ll recognize almost everything in the first game if you have played the sequel, but it will still feel like an almost entirely different game since you’re looking down on the battle to save Super Earth from above. The bugs are there, the stratagems are there, and even the Pelican that picks you up at the end of your missions looks the same.

Return To Where The Battle To Save Super Earth Began

Helldivers Super-Earth Ultimate Edition

The original Helldivers tasks you with the same mission as Helldivers 2, however, you’re looking down on your quest to save Super Earth and restore managed democracy to the galaxy from above.

Playing the original Helldivers after playing Helldivers 2 feels a little like playing the sequel in a different mode. Some might argue the view from above is optimal when battling bugs as it gives you a better idea of what exactly you’re up against. I, for one, would be more prone to run from hoards of Terminids more often rather than battle unassailable odds if I could see just how many of them were baying for my blood. Sure, a third-person view is an improvement in a lot of ways, but there are more occasions than I can count where I’ve naively believed I could beat the bugs coming my way only to be immediately overwhelmed.

Helldivers' Super-Earth Ultimate Edition will be available for a reduced price until 2:59 am EST on May 9 along with everything else included in PlayStation’s May Savings sale. If you’re looking to pick up other games for less before the sale comes to an end,Monster Hunter Rise,Final Fantasy 16, andHi-Fi Rushare also on sale.
