Summary
It can be difficult for developers to maintain live service titles these days, with fans expecting more and more content each month to avoid the risk of being labeled a “dead game.“Helldivers 2developer Arrowhead has been treading that particular tightrope rather well since launch, delivering new armor, weapons, and emotes via the Premium Warbonds system that has been serving them well up until now.
I say until now because there seems to be quite an air of disappointment surroundingthe recently released Polar Patriots Warbond, with some calling it a “missed opportunity” and “uninspired”. Reddit user WrapIndependent8353 was one of the first toshare their grievances with the Warbondon the Helldivers 2 subreddit, and were quickly followed by several hundred others also expressing their frustration.

A lot of the complaints seem to be aimed at the lack of variety in each new Warbond release, as a lot of people expected the theme of the Warbond to bring with it some cool new additions. Instead, many are complaining that the special white armor has very little to do with snowy climates, while others wanted something like Cryo ammo or Cryo grenades, but were disappointed to see a lot of very similar stuff that was included in previous Warbonds.
Helldivrs 2 players are an understanding lot though, you onlyneed to look at Operation Cleanup for proof of that. They have been saying that they’d much prefer fewer Warbonds a year if it meant that more time was put into them, with Reddit user Desxon going so far as to say they’d prefer “a quarterly 5 page Warbond” over what we’re currently getting.
Others want Warbonds to start getting a little more creative, disappointed with the constant flurry of similar SMGs, even if one of them currently hasthe helpful ability to stunlock Stalkers. Again, Reddit user OriginalGoatan is disappointed about the lack of freeze weapons in a Warbond titled “Polar Patriots”, and wanted something like “freeze beams or a cold blasting weapon.”
Ultimately, Arrowhead has a lot on its plate at the moment, and even more now that Sony has decided todelist the title from several countries and won’t put it back. Hopefully, Warbonds will improve once the state of the game stabilizes a little bit, and big fixessuch as the promised rewards system overhaulare implemented.
