Summary
Who would’ve thought that in a galaxy far, far away that there would also be a war for democracy? Not us, that’s for sure. But if a recent mod forHelldivers 2is any indication, then it turns out the Clone Wars are being fought right inside one of this year’s most popular games.
Debuting via ToastedShoe’s YouTube channel, the mod puts members of the iconic Clone Troopers fromStar Warsinto battle against an array of Star Wars-themed enemies, including AT-ATs and Droids. Even the ships in the game have been modified to be starships from the franchise, which is a nice bonus touch.
In the video posted by ToastedShoes, you can see the YouTuber and his friends messing around with the mod and making Helldivers 2 look a whole lot more like Battlefront than the bug-squashing game it currently is. The two worlds aren’t that far from one another in terms of their galactic focus and literal war among the stars, so it’s a crossover that makes some sense.
So, How Do You Get This Mod?
Unfortunately, if you were hoping to dive right in as a Clone Trooper, you’re going to have to wait. Taking to social media,ToastedShoes posted that the mod pack will become available “very shortly”. The team wants to iron out some details prior to launching the mod to the public.
However, in the interim, a 501st Legion mod will be dropping to help tide fans over until the big release. It hasn’t exactly been a banner few weeks for Helldivers 2 as, betweenthe PSN account fiasco and review bombs, things haven’t been as peachy as they were at launch. Still, unique mods like this and the upcomingreview bomb capehelp remind us why we fell in love with the world.
It’s Helldivers 2’s Biggest Mod Yet
Surprisingly enough, Helldivers 2, as popular as it is, hasn’t had too many large-scale mods. There has been aMaster Chief modand anODST helmet modfor alternate customizations. And there has also beena zero cape modto hide all the game’s capes. But to this day, there has been nothing on the scale of this Star Wars mod.
While the Star Wars mod helps change the look of the playable characters, the ships and enemies within the game, the weapons still remain the same. It’s not a big deal, but it does show how much potential there is for more mods.
Could the Halo Master Chief mod extend into several playable Spartans against a variety of Covenant? Or what about a mod centered around PlayStation’s dormant Killzone or Resistance franchises? The possibilities are quite literally endless, so here’s hoping. But if all else fails, at least we have a pseudo-Battlefront 3 title to mess around with
