Summary
TheHelldivers 2community unlocked the mech suit stratagem in March afterliberating Tien Kwan, and only two days ago, they unlocked a second exo-suit for liberating Varylia 5. But you can’t have two mechs at once, meaning only one Helldiver can deploy them at a time
According to community manager Katherine ‘TheBaskinator’ Baskin, “It’s due to resource management.”
We want to un-cap the number of mechs [and] vehicles but more work is required.
“From our code team lead: ‘The mechs require a lot of system resources - significantly more than other stratagems - to the point where we need to keep a cap on vehicles in general to avoid any further problems with stability and performance. We want to un-cap the number of mechs [and] vehicles but more work is required on our end to make sure we can do that in a stable way.'”
Helldivers 2 Doesn’t Limit Mechs Because Of Balance
The silver lining with this revelation is that Helldivers 2 isn’t limiting the number of mech suits you’re able to deploy for balance reasons, which has given the community hope that one day they’ll be able to squad up in their big bulky exo-suits and slaughter the terminids like they’re a gang of Ripleys wailing on a horde of xenomorphs.
“As long as it’s a technical problem and not anti-fun design, I get it,” one player commented. “So possibly in the future, then,” another said. “Nice news”
Thank god it isn’t for ‘balance’ reasons.
However, it’s worth noting thatdeveloper Arrowhead wants to slow down the cadence of updatesin the future so that it can “maintain the quality standard we want and you deserve.” So, don’t expect the number of mechs to suddenly increase overnight. For now, you’ll have to make do with one.
