Summary

Fortnite’s latest update has massively nerfed the infamously powerful Nitro, although it’s surprisingly seen a lot of backlash from players who hate the focus on competitive play over fun.

Chapter 5, Season 3 of Fortnite (also known as Wrecked) hasundeniably been a bit controversial since it started last month. The focus on car combat over traditional shooting was always going to cause a bit of a stir, but that’s just the start of what some players have been finding less enjoyable about the current season.

Another big point of contention during the Wrecked season has been Nitro,a new consumable that can be acquired by players whether they’re using a vehicle or not. When in Nitro mode, players can deal a ton of damage just by running into their enemies, which has been seen as a little unbalanced. Well, if you’re one of the players who struggles against Nitro, you’ll be happy with the latest update.

Fortnite’s Infamous Nitro Has Been Nerfed

Earlier today, Epic Games released a new update for Fortnite that notablyprepares the game for the arrival of a new “classic” mode called Reload. That wasn’t all, though, as the update also tweaked some gameplay mechanics, with one of the most obvious changes going to the damage that Nitro can deal.

As highlighted by reliable Fortnite insider HYPEX, the latest Fortnite update has massively toned down how much damage the Nitro buff does to builds. In the clip, HYPEX can be seen in a Nitro state running into a build, which now only causes it 90 damage instead of the 300 that it previously did, essentially making Nitro a lot more useless than it previously was.

Interestingly, the far more controversial and unpopular Nitro Fists don’t seem to have been tweaked in the latest update, despite most players considering them overpowered.

While you might think that Nitro being nerfed would be taken as a positive thing, it seems the response is a bit more mixed. One of the most popular retweets of the video comes from Twitter user D3NNI_yt, who lamented the focus on competitive play and joked that Epic will just outright remove the Nitro Fists and cars next.

Another popular comment from Twitter user Setty2k_has a similar sentiment, saying, “yeah no wtf the nitro is basically useless now, how am I supposed to have fun in this game, sweats always get what they want”. It seems that even if Epic is trying to make Fortnite more balanced, the focus on competitive fair play is now something that a lot of casual players don’t want.
