Summary

FortniteChapter 5, Season 3 players have been surprised to find out that the new Nitro consumable allows you to run on water, something that hadn’t been revealed byEpic.

After the somewhat disappointing Myths and Mortals Season, Fortnite is back with a bang thanks to Chapter 5, Season 3 (also known as Wrecked),which kickstarted yesterdayand has already seen a more positive reception.Outside of the Fallout collaboration, the main reason the Season is being so praised right now isbecause of its unique gameplay mechanics.

The main crux of this season’s gameplay loop is a new consumable item called Nitro, which can be used on cars to temporarily increase their speed, make their rams explosive, reduce the amount of fuel they use, and provide a buff to the weapon mods that are attached to them. That’s not all though, as Nitro can also be used on players to give them some similar perks.

Nitro Has A Hidden Bonus For Fortnite Players

In a blog post explaining everything that’s changed in Fortnite’s Wrecked Season, Epic revealed that Nitro could be used by players to increase their movement and reload speed, reduce their stamina use, and even make them immune to fall damage. All of those effects are very similar to what it does for cars, but there’s actually a hidden property to Nitro that Epic didn’t reveal.

As you can see from the clip above that wasshared by Twitter user FNBRbuzz and originally captured by notkrae, players who consume Nitro running through the massive fiery rings or using the Nitro Splash item will be able to run across the water while the Nitro is in their system. It’s not a very long buff unless you’ve got Nitro Splash on hand, but it’s an interesting hidden mechanic.

Running across water is especially helpful in the Underworld, as the special water there lets you dash in the air, essentially giving you a constant and noticeable speed boost.

You might be wondering what kind of benefit there is to running across the water and, after having tried it for myself, I can say that there isn’t really much of one. It’s a neat side-effect of using Nitro and a cool bonus, but don’t go expecting it to turn a Battle Royale around. That being said, I’m sure there are some players who have already got some things in mind to camp out on the water and get a Victory Royale.
