Summary
A recentKonamilivestream has given us our first look atMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s menus, including the iconic Survival Viewer that was a core mechanic of the third game.
Considering how explosiveKonami’s reputation with Hideo Kojima becamefollowing the release ofMetal Gear Solid 5, it’s fair to say that fans were a little worriedwhen a remake of the third game was announced. One of the main things that everyone was worried about is how faithful Metal Gear Solid Delta would be to the original Snake Eater.
As it turns out, though, everything we’ve seen of the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake has been shockingly respectful of the original game and mostly looks to be the same. In fact,a recent video from Konami showed off even more of Metal Gear Solid Deltaand cemented that it’s sticking as closely as possible to the original by showing off the menus and Survival Viewer.
Metal Gear Solid Delta’s Survival Viewer And Menus Are Shockingly Faithful
As pointed out by Twitter user MGSMGN, the Konami showcase didn’t reveal a bunch of new gameplay, but it did give us our best look yet at the Snake Eater’s menus. Surprisingly, Konami has decided to keep them nearly identical to how they were in the original game, from the camouflage meter in the top right, to the way to the health meter in the top left.
So far, it doesn’t seem like any new camouflage options have been added to Snake Eater’s remake. I might be wrong, but it seems to be the same choices you had in the original game.
The mostinteresting thing that was shown off during the Konami livestream is the Survival Viewer, a feature that was introduced in the original Snake Eater and allows players to get a good look at Naked Snake’s condition. In that release of the game, Snake’s injuries and ailments show up on the screen for you to fix, but the one shown off has Snake in pretty good condition.
That is, if you ignore all of the scars and bloody injuries that he’s received, which will naturally stay on his body as the game progresses. You can see this a little in the livestream, as Naked Snake has plenty of cuts and scrapes across his body. Metal Gear Solid Delta might not be changing much, but it does seem to have upgraded one of the game’s central mechanics.
