Summary
Final Fantasy 14’s massive player base is about to embark on what might end up being its biggest adventure yet when Dawntrail is released on July 2. Three weeks to go which means there’s still time to get more people on the bandwagon before it really starts to pick up speed again. One waySquare Enixis doing that is via a new tenth-anniversary edition. Aimed at those who haven’t played a single second of Final Fantasy 14, the anniversary edition is available now.
There are some caveats before we break down what’s included with this celebratory edition of the MMORPG. For starters, it’s currentlylisted exclusively on the European Square Enix site. That doesn’t mean it won’t be available in the US eventually, in fact it would be odd if it isn’t, but for now, it’s a Europe and UK-only item. It’s also only available onPC, but again, that feels like something that will likely change, especially if this edition of the game does well.
Okay, onto what you get with this edition of the game. In terms of how much of the game you can play, the tenth-anniversary edition includes the base game and its first two expansions, Heavensward and Stormblood. That’s a heck of a lot of content, almost certainly more than you will be able to play through between now and Dawntrail’s release, but hey, the upcoming expansion’s not going anywhere. It and the other expansions between it and Stormblood will be waiting for you as and when you get to them if the anniversary edition succeeds in sucking you into Final Fantasy 14’s world.
It’s Been Ten Years Already
Speaking of getting things done in a certain amount of time, the anniversary edition also comes with a free 30-day subscription to Final Fantasy 14. Yes, you do need a subscription to play the game, but your first 30 days will be free if you take this route. If you still want more after 30 days and made the most of your free trial, a monthly subscription so you can continue your journey is likely one that’s going to be worth your while. Maybe cancel one of the streaming service subscriptions you have to make room for it bills-wise.
If you’re still not convinced to take the plunge, the anniversary edition also includes a Final Fantasy 14 mousepad and 50 buttery Mogbiscuits. Those are an in-game item by the way. If the game came with a cookie jar filled with real mogbiscuits then I’d be picking up a second copy. If you’re already a Final Fantasy 14 player but you’ve read through all this for some reason, your reward is the reveal thatSecretlab now has a Final Fantasy 14 customization optionas well as fat cat and chocobo lumbar pillows.
