We know that it’s probably coming, but we don’t know where from. Final Fantasy 14 director Yoshi-P recently revealed thatnew unannounced games are in development at Creative Business Unit 3- the studio that he heads that is responsible for the MMO and Final Fantasy 16 - which was enough to convince some that one of these titles is the long-rumored Final Fantasy 9 Remake.

Final Fantasy 14 Director Shoots Down Rumors He’s Remaking Final Fantasy 9

Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as Yoshi-P was quick to shoot down that theory during Final Fantasy 14’s latest live letter (thanksGamesRadar). During the show, Yoshi-P claims that he’s seen many people arguing about the possibility of him being the one behind the rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake, claiming that he’d turn the beloved JRPG into an action game if he got his hands on it.

Clearly annoyed by these accusations, Yoshi-P made it clear during the live letter that he isn’t remaking Final Fantasy 9, and that even if he was, he’d stick to the original game’s turn-based combat system. He also explains that the game Creative Business Unti 3 has in development won’t be announced “soon” as is being reported, and that this was a mistranslation.

It should also be worth mentioning that Yoshi-P didn’t say anything regarding the also rumored Final Fantasy Tactics remake, which Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier recently claimedis being made in part by Yoshi-P’s team. He has beenvery open about his love for the title in the past, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him behind a remake, but he’s also probably preparing for Dawntrail at the moment. If you’re a Final Fantasy 14 player, you might want to follow in his footsteps.
