While we don’t know much about this rumoured collaboration yet, @mohplay_inc_ shed some light on what the new game will be called - FIFA 2K25.

Industry Leaker Claimed Earlier This Year That 2K Was Working On New FIFA

This isn’t a new rumour by any stretch. In February, industry leaker Kurakasis teased that 2K was working on the new FIFA, writing that their favourite game in the series is “2K2” before cutting themselves off.

They claimed it would be announced in March and launch in May or June, but prefaced this by saying that the announcement had already been postponed, so it might be again. We’ve passed March and are currently at the end of May with no new FIFA in sight, so evidently there were internal delays as Kurakasis predicted.

2K Sports-1

However, 2K and FIFA’s ties go back much further than that. In 2021, 2K boss Strauss Zelnick was asked whether the company was interested in buying the FIFA license (as reported byMetro). He responded, “That’s a big step forward for us… we haven’t been in that sport before. And erm, I think I’ll leave it at that today.”

Many took that to mean that 2K had already talked to FIFA, so this partnership could be years in the making. We’re nearly halfway through 2024, so if it is set to launch this year, we’ll find out soon enough if the rumours are true.

FIFA

The FIFA series of football simulation video games from EA Sports spans 30 years, from FIFA International Soccer in 1993 to the last iteration before expiry of the FIFA license in 2022. It has become well known for its Ultimate Team mode, bringing in billions of dollars for EA.
