Summary
In theFalloutTV series, we caught a glimpse at the iconic NCR Ranger armour fromNew Vegas, but his helmet was a bit wonky so fans tore the design to shreds. But as many pointed out, he was a scavenger, not used to the bulkier kit of the New California Republic’s most elite.
Of course, he isn’t the only one to draw ire from fans, as the bog-standard troops servingMoldaverare also drumming up arguments in the community, with many upset at their “paintball” and “airsoft” design.

“Look how they massacred our boys,” one fan said, attaching a picture of several NCR footsoldiers who served underMoldaver. At the time of writing, the post has over 6,000 upvotes, but the comments aren’t as unanimous.
“Bruh, these guys look better equipped than the grunts guarding Camp McCarran,” wrote another fan. “Sure, they look rough and dirty with mismatched gear, but that makes sense considering they’re probably the last NCR holdout in the area.”
“Show takes place 15 years after New Vegas so it’s very understandable that they might upgrade their goofy ‘aah’ trooper uniforms with something more practical or better,” one reply reads.
The NCR Is On The Brink Of Collapse By The Time Of The Fallout TV Series
It’s worth keeping in mind that the TV series takes place 15 years after New Vegas, a game in which the NCR was stretched so thin that they were struggling to deal with raiders using golf clubs. They were too busy fighting Caesar’s Legion and the Great Khans in the Mojave alone.
That’s not even to mention thatthe New California Republic capital Shady Sands was nukedalmost immediately after the events of the game. If the NCR was on the brink of collapse before, now it’s in the mud.
Others even point out that they look closer to Fallout 2’s NCR troopers who wore standard combat armour.
“The armour makes perfect sense for the information we are given about the NCR in the show,” says one commenter. “New Vegas fanboys are just mad they completely missed all the subtext that the NCR was already falling apart at the time the game takes place”.
“Fallout fans when the faction that is on its knees about to get shot in the head is struggling with basic equipment,” another wrote.
This is just a glimpse at the NCR, a subgroup who behave more like bandits anyway. We knowtheir story isn’t over yetand that the show is taking us back to New Vegas, so perhaps we’ll see more familiar armour in the next season.
